Current customer rating: (84 votes ) based onAbout Packard's Deluxe Eight 903 Model:
Packard's continued domination in the American luxury car market was further emphasized in 1932 with the introduction of chassis and engine improvements that made them even smoother and quieter! These changes came from a redesign of the chassis to utilize a double drop frame that was also 2" longer allowing the bodies to sit lower to the ground, in addition to a revised Bijur chassis lubrication system that now automatically lubed 40 points on the Deluxe chassis. This longer 142.5" Deluxe chassis also utilized special stabilizer bumpers to better absorb wheel vibrations, and a dual-piece prop shaft was adopted with a rubberized carrier bearing to further reduce engine vibration and road noise. The engine compression was upped to 6:1 increasing horsepower to 135hp along with new rubber engine mounts and larger air cleaner to quiet the action of the Detroit Lubricator carburetor, both aiding additional noise reduction. The resulting Deluxe Eight chassis was truly superb, and offered in 10 body styles to choose from. Some 955 Deluxe Eight units were sold across all styles, with one style in particular highly sought after today- the 903 Deluxe Eight Coupe Roadster! Very few are known and recognized within the Packard registry today, and fewer will appear on the market annually as collectors resist the urge to let them escape their possession. This presents a very rare opportunity for the pre-war collecting community to own a very special Packard Rumble Seat Roadster!
About Our Classic Packard For Sale:
Offered for the first time in 19 years is a spectacular 1932 Packard 903 Deluxe Eight 2/4 Coupe Roadster finished in a beautiful two-tone shade of Green over Brown Leather interior, it continues to show exceptionally well for a full restoration completed over two decades ago! The original 384.5ci Inline 8 cylinder comes mated to factory 3-speed synchromesh manual transmission, both said to have been rebuilt during restoration. Options include dual side-mounted spare tires with Packard See-Rite rearview mirrors, rear rumble seat, Ride Control system, chrome grill guard, rear luggage rack, Trippe Safety Lights with SpeedLight lenses, original C.M. Hall & Co Depress Beam headlamps and parking lights, Cormorant hood ornament, spot light, locking tool box, dual Sparton L-A-Trumpet horns, and 19" wire wheels wrapped in Firestone Deluxe Champion 7.00-19 wide whitewall tires.
This example hails most recently from the Leawood, Kansas area from the former owners of 19 years! They were lucky to source this example from a reputable Packard broker in the Seattle area. At the time of it's purchase in March 2001, this classic had 48,904 miles on the odometer. Today, the odometer reads 59,753 miles proving that the owners enjoyed their treasured Packard annually at Packard events, as well as, casual trips around town! In fact, these happy owners referred to the classic Packard, seen here, as their "Green Queen" making sure she was always properly maintained mechanically to be ready for road use during the driving season. Sadly, they had to part ways with this lovely Packard due to health reasons.
Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, our experienced mechanics opted to replace the entire folding convertible top with brand new tan Stayfast material, piping, and pads. The boot cover with a matching storage cover were also refinished to improve the presentation. Additionally, the wheels were repainted in matching body color, tires remounted and balanced, with freshly chromed split trim rings! Since the car had been sitting and was not driven for some time, the fuel tank was drained of old gas, flushed, and cleaned along with the carburetor. A new battery and spark plugs were installed, along with new engine fluids and tuning. This beautiful classic continues to start with incredible ease and run with the quiet performance Packard's are known for! As a Classic Car Club of America Full Classic, it allows the next owner an open door to attend many exciting opportunities to participant in some of the Country's most prestigious classic car events! It shows signs of use and only the mildest element of patina on the paint and interior surfaces, although any onlooker would have to admit it continues to present itself very well overall and would be a proud participant at any CCCA Caravan or show event! If you are looking to add a real jewel to your pre-war collection, look no further than this rare 1932 Packard Roadster, now available at the St. Louis Car Museum.
