Well xmas is over. The year ahead means sorting out. I have VERY RELUCTANTLY decided to sell my 'PRIDE and JOY'.

FOR SALE IS MY 1959 AUSTIN 'WANDSWORTH' AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE IS an AUSTIN 2200cc LD (Variant). The London ambulance service fabricated a fibre glass body and modified the chassis to lower the access for the saloon.

The Ambulance was used in tv and film work during the 1970's and is 'FAMOUSLY' known for it's appearence in 'CARRY on MATRON' and 'SOME MOTHERS DO HAVE THEM' (recently i confirmed that the vehicle was also used in O' LUCKY MAN.    I have not been sucessful myself. in getting the vehicle used again in tv and film work as i had hoped to. this would have helped me to re-invest in it's upkeep. I have owned the ambulance for the past 7 years and it now requires some work to bring it back to excellent condition. The condition of which is still very good.

THE 'WANDSWORTH' is an HISTORIC VEHICLE and as such is both TAX and M. O. T EXEMPT. last mot was in 2012.

THE AMBULANCE WAS RESTORED BACK TO LCC LIVERY IN 1991. IT HAS MUCH OF THE AMBULANCE INTERIOR AND IS ONLY MISSING THE STRETCHER. WHICH WOULD BE GOOD TO FIND ONE DAY.

I RECENTLY REFITTED A NEW COMPLETE CLUTCH and the vehicle is tuned nicely which leads to an excellent 'steady ride'.

As i indicated above the condition is overall very good. however there are some glass fibre repairs required. It is evident that the restoration back in 1991 had some flaws as i found out after attending a local show a couple of years back. The screws holding the cab doors were/are not suitable and as such the nearside door was 'ripped' of in a gale. whilst driving. I had this door repaired however the door was straightened. I can still get this sorted out to put the curve back in but haven't had time to date.
There is also damage to above rear number plate. I caught the edge reversing into my garage. Most of the time i could angle the ambulance in order to reverse it in without difficulty. There is a crack around the rear 'drivers' side lights.
The ambulance has a fibre glass body which does flex. evidence of this can be seen on the paint work. This will just need tidying up.

I am selling with a WINKWORTH BELL and not the Julius Sax bell as pictured on the ambulance.
