1967 Chevrolet Nova

"Up with good looks. Down with high prices. The stylish economy car.". The 1967 Nova sales brochure. The high powered Turbo Fire 327ci V8 that had been introduced the previous year as the top-of-the-line engine option was discontinued for 1967. The Nova SS got a new black accented grille. Optional front disc brakes were made available for the first time. With the introduction of the Turbo-Fire engine in 1966, the Nova SS had snuck its way into a muscle car label, despite its small stature. Really, it was somewhere in between the pony car and muscle car class. Though its power had been diminished in 1967, it was still a quick car that would become quicker as the years wore on.

For consignment, a 1967 tribute with some of that zapped power put back in with a 383ci stroker, electronic fuel injection, a rebuilt transmission, new suspension and subframe connectors and Flowmaster dual exhaust all wrapped up in a nice blue on blue package and waiting for you in our Hallowed Halls.

ExteriorPainted in Marina Blue, straight steel panels are shown with scrapes, scratches and chipping of the paint, especially on the lower surfaces. Gaps are decently minded but would benefit from some extra alignment time as there is evidence of rubbing particularly between the driver's door and front fender. Polished 15 inch American Racing Torque Thrust wheels give a muscular and elegant look for this once humble grocery getter. The headlights, slightly recessed into their respective bezels at the front of each fender flank a bright and shiny eggcrate grille and just below is a brilliant straight chrome bumper. New emblems are on and match the quality of the nice trimmings around the glass. Just above the wheel wells in front is a small "fold" in the metal, which is a built-in trim spear, but remains the body color. This runs through the doors and to the rear quarters which support vertical taillights and backup lights placed on top of each other. A nicely curved back glass meets up with the trunk lid and rolls rearward to a trim piece which runs between the taillights and highlights the rear of the lid. Below is another pristine bumper.

InteriorBreaking up the blue shiny vinyl on each door is a chromed T which delineates the panels, one housing the armrest, door pull, and the other, door actuator, lock knob and window crank. More Marina Blue painted metal makes up the sills of these doors. Inside we note a very well done, new split bench seat with some blue tuck and roll bolsters, a smooth mid panel and a white stripe of vinyl cutting through the smooth center panels. Blue piping is also surrounding these seats. The rear bench matches the front split bench in its style and pattern. Upfront a simple angled dash using padded blue vinyl on top and an aluminum panel through the center, with more blue metal below. The instruments and radio are within this aluminum center and just below is the display/controller for the EFI, a trio of aftermarket gauges, and the ducting and vents for the A/C and heating system. An original steering wheel is fronting this clean dash, and an aftermarket tachometer is mounted to the column. Black carpeting in like new condition floods the floors, and nicely embroidered floor mats are above the new carpeting. The headliner is nice in blue vinyl showing just a few wrinkles.

DrivetrainThe consignor states that a 383ci V8 is now on board under the hood making an asphalt ripping 450hp. A flip of the hood confirms that it is a V8, however, not the cubic inches, which remains consignor stated. On top is an aluminum intake manifold and a Holley Sniper EFI unit. All this with a bowtie orange/red block, and chromed valve covers and an air cleaner covering in chrome. On the back is a TH350 3-speed manual transmission which the consigner says was recently rebuilt. The rear axle is a 10 bolt 4.11 posi setup that the consignor states is new.

UndercarriageLots of black paint and undercoating is seen along with some surface rust on untreated components. One area of concern is the passengers rear unibody rail, a prior repair is note. Otherwise, we note a nice job done underneath with a big shout out to the subframe connectors that have been added to help with structural integrity. Also, we note a new boxed steel front subframe along with independent adjustable coilovers for the front, and leaf springs for the back. Power disc brakes are up front and work together with power rear drums. A power rack and pinion steering system is noted as well.

Drive-AbilityA quick fire up and little warm up, thanks to the modern EFI, and off to the test track. I felt like a superstar behind this wheel in this excellent interior. On track I experienced smooth acceleration, bias free panic stopping, and nice tight cornering. All functions were working at this time.

Well restored, well upgraded in the engine department, and nicely done interior, we have a runner, and a gunner with only a few small frowns. If you are looking for a smaller muscle car classic this one is truly a wild deuce in SS tribute form.
