"...the Charger, one of the most beloved cars of the 1960s...." - Old Cars Weekly, October 2010

Writer, Brian Earnest, continued: "Dodge had been onto a good thing for years, and continued to stick to a winning formula.... The Chargers got a major restyling for the 1971 model year, and those new looks took the cars through 1974. The 1973s got new grilles and vertically slatted taillights. Under the hood... Chargers carried a base 225-cid slant six or the 150-hp 318 V-8. The 400 was optional in both two- and four-barrel varieties. The Chargers (also) got a new Torsion-Quiet Ride suspension setup for the model year, and disc brakes were standard on the front."

Offered here is a 1974 Dodge Charger customized in royal-blue metallic and white paint with a white vinyl top over white. This Charger R/T Tribute is an original 400-cubic-inch, 4-barrel V8 car as shown by the VIN decode listed nearby. Its odometer currently shows 35,793 miles.

The exterior blue-metallic paint shows well with an even gloss across the entire body. All proper surfaces including the underside of the trunk lid, door jambs, and doors were properly painted. The custom white R/T insert on the hood is also well-executed. The car's sheet metal is free of dings or other damage, and the black vinyl top is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or signs of abrasion. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Chrome bumpers and body trim-including window surrounds, side mirror, fender-well accents, and door handles-are all in very well-maintained condition with only light patina in places, notably on the door handles. A matte-black, rear-deck spoiler is mounted. Cabin glass is clear and free of imperfections as are all lighting lenses (including the full-width taillight array). Factory badging is limited to the "440 Magnum" hood emblem. Weld® Forged Alloy polished 15-inch front wheels are mounted with Goodyear® Polyglas GT raised-white-letter tires, while matching rear wheels are mounted with ProTrac® 50 Racing Profile raised-white-letter tires.

The Charger's striking, white-themed interior includes a number of premium touches. Gray inserts are included on the stylized and simplified door panels. Original high-back front bucket seats (upholstered in horizontally pleated white vinyl, original in back and refreshed in front) share a center-console armrest in black. Black premium carpeting covers the cabin floors. A 4-spoke, Grant® GT steering wheel frames the stock horizontal speedometer. Added below dash are Equus® oil-pressure and coolant-temperature gauges and a larger Bosch® tachometer. The black padded dash is free of damage and includes the Charger-script emblem on the passenger side. The t-lever shifter for the automatic transmission is mounted on the console. A Nakamichi® audio head unit is mounted in the factory-radio location.

Under the hood, the 400-cubic-inch V8 (with EFI FiTech system, matte-black, open-sided air cleaner cover, M/T®-branded, finned black valve covers) is centermost in a clean, properly organized engine bay. The engine block wears orange paint, and an aluminum radiator is mounted. Viewed from below, the chassis is straight and undamaged. The upgraded full-length, performance dual exhaust system (with "x" crossover) exits ahead of the rear axle.

The Charger's original build and identification tags remain as mounted at the factory.

While the more than 150 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '74 Charger in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

This blue-and-white Charger is a real flashback to the Seventies, when style, bright colors, and of course, performance were at the heart of the American automotive scene, particularly the MOPAR part of that scene. The car's next owner can expect to hear reminiscences aplenty when fellow Seventies-decade enthusiasts stop to admire this performance time-traveler.

About Garage Kept Motors

Garage Kept Motors, LLC specializes in classic and specialty online auto sales.

For our consignors, we are the only auto brokers that offer a Transparent Sale Disclosure. This means, when a car sells, we provide an exact copy of the Bill of Sale. We do this so our clients know exactly who bought their car, where it went, and most importantly how much we sold it for. No funny business.

For our buyers, our vehicles are listed on the Internet, with over 100 photos, including undercarriage pictures, and walk-around videos of the vehicles running plus a narrative-style write-up of the cars history and features. Our international exposure allows us to sell cars across the globe, and we sell a majority of them out of state and overseas. We deliver honesty and consistency in our photos and descriptions, a “no surprise” approach, so buyers, both near and far, can invest with confidence sight unseen. We are not a gallery. Vehicles can be seen locally by appointment as potential buyers are given our undivided attention.
