Information of W 113 280SL
Mercedes Benz topped themselves when producing the W 113 280SL model by installing the 2. 8L M130 incline-six into this new model (170HP / 180 lb ft torque). The bonnet. trunk lid. door skins and tonneau cover were made of aluminum to reduce weight. The short and wide chassis. combined with an excellent suspension. powerful disc brakes and radial tires gave the W 113 superb handling for its time. The styling of the front. with its characteristic upright Bosch 'fishbowl' headlights and simple chrome grille. dominated by the large three-pointed star in the nose panel. paid homage to the then already legendary 300 SL roadster. Most of its body was assembled by spot welds. nbsp;directly they can be seen in the engine bay at the top of the fenders and on the rear fenders they can be seen along in inner seem above the wheel. nbsp;as this car shows the original spot welds! (see picture below)
This 280SL provides foremost originality with its clearly visible spot welds. even hood gap. original stamps. along with the superb quality of body lines and eye catching sporty structure.
Production years for the W 113 280SL were from Nov. 1967/Jan. 1968 -March 1971
