CLASSIC JAGUAR XK140 FHC SPORT CAR, FRAME OFF RESTORATION

This 1955 Jaguar XK140 FHC underwent a 2 year frame off restoration that was finished last year. The 3. 4 liter motor starts easily and runs well. The car is equipped with the 4-speed/overdrive transmission. which provides an excellent highway driving experience. The British Racing Green/ Biscuit interior color combination is stunning and is one of the most desirable combinations available.

I purchased this car from the estate of a man who had disassembled the car in preparation for restoration. He had purchased a rebuilt 3. 4-liter motor for the car and purchased a number of replacement parts. The car. the motor and the extra parts were shipped to Albuquerque in a shipping container.

After arrival the body and frame were media blasted to bare metal both inside and out. The body was removed from the frame and restoration began.

The frame was primed and painted with gloss black enamel. The front suspension was restored with new rubber bushings. new ball joints and new tie rod ends.

The braking system was rebuilt with new brake shoes. new or rebuilt wheel cylinders. rebuilt master cylinder and new brake line hoses.

The motor was installed and fitted with a rebuilt overdrive transmission. a shortened drive shaft with new U joints. The differential and axle seals were replaced.

The carburetors were rebuilt and a rebuilt fuel pump and a new gas tank completed the fuel system. The exhaust system was replaced with new stainless steel dual exhaust pipes and mufflers.

The restoration of the body began with the replacement of the rusty door sills. shut pillar assemblies and mud shields. The underside of the body and the inside of the cab were painted with a flat black enamel. The exterior of the body. all the separable components and even the fender welt were painted British Racing Green with the base coat clear coat system.

The body was then dropped over the motor onto the frame and loose components were attached. The rechromed bumpers. taillights and trim pieces were installed. Sound deadening/insulating material was applied inside the doors. ceiling. floorboards and all interior body panels.

The electrical components were installed with a new wiring harness.

New window channels. weather-stripping and window seals were installed.

The windshield glass was replaced because there was some sand pitting.

The interior wood trim was refinished and installed with a new complete upholstery kit in Biscuit color.

Finally 4 new chrome wire wheels were installed. each with a new radial ply tire 600R-16 with the same dimensions as the original bias belted tire but with better performance.
