1967 LOTUS ELAN FHC. ULL SPYDER ENGINEERING 2LTR ZETEC. ONVERSION. LUS!

 Just 9500 miles since build.  

        Here must be a unique opportunity to aquire one man's. ersonal ambition to build himself a. o expense spared. erfect British B roads GT.
A car that would not only be a terrific performer but also be a reliable car for regular use and be practical for fast continental journeys. hilst still possess the style and appearence of an original Elan.

The project started with the hunt for a genuine Elan FHC to use as the basis. This was found in the form of KRY 736E.
A 1967 Elan FHC. KRY is believed to have been a Lotus built car. irst registered to a Mr J. R Main of Evington. eicester on 21st June 1967.
Looking through the paperwork included. ncluding the original card logbook. t would appear that KRY then changed hands on just 4 occasions before being purchased by it's current owner.

On aquisition in 2009 it's current owner. mmediately handed over KRY to Spyder Engineering of Peterborough. ell respected for their Elan conversions. o be gradually rebuilt in it's entirety. sing their Spyder space frame chassis. djustable coil over suspension with uprated suspension parts throughout. ide impact bars and Ford Zetec mechanicals and all kept to original Elan dimensions.

Engine and transmission were in the form of a new 1998cc. alanced. orted Ford Zetec unit with new. igh lift cam kit 285/R200. prated rod bolts. branch exhaust system. hich on a rolling road test has produced 178bhp & 180ft/lbs of torque. The owner has stated that the engine will easily pull 7000 rpm
Transmission is in the form of the Ford. speed gearbox to a 3. 64 LSD and solid driveshafts.
An alloy petrol tank is fitted with Monza cap. The tank repositioned between rear suspension struts to allow for more boot space.

Brakes are Ford. on servoed disc all round with Willwood. erformance. lloy 4 pot calipers on the front. okohama 185x60 tyres are fitted to the 14" Minilites. Spare is a space saver.

Externally the bodywork was completely refurbished and fitted with genuine Elan 26R wheel arches. hortened front bumper and 26R plexiglass headlight covers and headlights. Painted a Mercedes colour. ark blue with dark silver bumpers and silver. 4" bolt on Minilites. 1 Elan rear tailights have also been fitted.

Inside. full set of electronic. DO instruments were chosen. easuring KPH & MPH. laced into a nice black. rackle finish dashboard. Dash switches are aircraft style toggle switches.
The original Elan seats were used. etrimmed in a good quality. id blue leather. the interior has been fully carpet including the boot.
Door windows are lightweight plexiglass and are electric in operation.
Retractable seatbelts are fitted. here is a working heater. map pocket. lloy gearstick knob and leather trimmed Lotus 26R steering wheel fitted to complete the very attractive interior.
For safety. fire extinguisher and a solid silver St Christoper badge!

The car has been continuously improved by it's owner with more recent upgrades which have included Spyder. prated rose joint rear suspension and a quick steering rack. . 2 turns. lus brake improvements.  

Please note. his is not a fully comprehensive list of all that has been done. have yet to go through all the receipts in  full detail.    

The car is terrific for Britains busy A & B roads. mall and quick you can overtake in safety and with ease. have been informed that mpg is well over 30 and it will cruise at 80/90 mph. Over 120 mph has been achieved. he owner stating the car felt very comfortable!
It is also a very easy car to service and maintain. ll Ford & Spyder parts are readily available and no greasing is required.

Reluctantly. ue to a sudden loss of storage and 4 cars to deal with the owner has decided to part with the Lotus.
Although they have asked me specifically not to tell them the exact figure. ll work is documented and I have gone through the paperwork. ills and receipts and I can state the cost to build this car has been well over and above the asking price. The receipts also show an emphasis on performance and quality parts being used at the owners request. s and when required. With recent rises in Elan prices. t would no doubt be an even more costly exercise to carry out now.
