Up for sale is a rust free 1971 240z which was stored in a storage locker for more than 10 years before being brought back to life. The car was a California car and also driven in Texas as is rust free.

This car is currently located in Indiana and below is a detailed description of what has been done to the car to bring it back to life after storage. It currently has 85. 00 original miles on it.

Powertrain; Original numbers matching L24 mated to original “A” box 4 speed manual transmission. The L24 is a great motor and it just needed to have a major tune-up to bring it back to life. The ignition system was upgraded to a Pertronix optic system to replace the points. Fresh NGK plugs attached to new NGK spark plug wires ---powered by a performance “Flame-Thrower” coil--- generate the spark for the engine. The valves were adjusted and run quiet. The original 4 screw -twin SU carbs were thoroughly cleaned and rebuilt. All filters for fuel and air were changed. The intake/exhaust manifold gasket was replaced. The original metal cooling fan was replaced by a plastic fan and the water pump was changed just for assurance. The 3 row core radiator was flushed and leak checked by a radiator shop. All fluids in the engine and transmission were changed. The engine has NO LEAKS!!!! The “smog” pump is fully functioning and all hoses are in good repair. The original alternator and voltage regulator work great maintaining system voltage. The battery is new and the cables were also replaced. All the components of the original A. R. A. air conditioning are on the engine. but I have not attempted to service the unit. The engine block was painted during the clutch replacement. The exhaust is rock solid with no leaks. The exhaust from the downpipe back is new. It is an aftermarket system that replicates the original exhaust with a resonator in the middle and muffler in the back.   The fuel tank was removed cleaned and painted and reinstalled. The fuel was removed before it was stored many years ago. so there was no rust in the tank.

The 4 speed transmission shifts nicely. As stated earlier a complete clutch change was done including Excedy clutch. pressure plate. throw-out bearing and pilot bushing. There's wasn't really anything wrong with the original clutch. but I thought it would be prudent with 86. 00 miles on the car. The transmission has a slight whine to it. but after doing some research. I have read that the early “A” box transmissions exhibited this trait. I guess the counter shaft bearings have loose tolerances which make more noise than later year transmissions. The “whine” disappears in final gear and she runs quiet down the highway!

Suspension and brakes; As you can see from the pictures. everything on the suspension was removed. sandblasted and powder coated. All the bushing in the suspension were replaced with urethane. The shocks were replaced with KYB units. The spindle pins on the rear control arms were replaced with new pins.   The ball joints were replaced as well as the outer tie rods. The springs are original and in good repair. The front and rear brakes were completely rebuilt. The front calipers and rotors were replaced as well as new pads installed. The front wheel bearings were cleaned and repacked. The rear wheel brake cylinders were replaced with new Tokico units and all the hardware and brake shoes replaced. The drums were resurfaced and are at the service limits at this time. The car rides on all new 14” General Ultimax RT 195/70/14 tires mounted on practically new 5 slot aluminum mags.

Interior; The interior is very complete and wasn't in too bad of shape. but needed the usual items attended to. The carpet was replaced and the seats were refurbished. The seats in the car are actually from a later model year. so I could enjoy the recline mechanism. I still have the original seats and seat mechanisms for the buyer. The only other item redone in the interior was the dash. I had the full dash cover applied to cover the 2 cracks in the dash. Everything else is original and in good repair. The original fiberglass console is without cracks and has the ARA controls still attached. The original ashtray and lighter is there and looks like it was never used. Also original is the shift knob and shift boot. The AM- Hitachi radio is there with an undamaged faceplate. There is no speaker in the car to test sound. but the green light comes on and auto-tune selector works great. I don't have a powered antenna so I can't say if the antenna switch works. but it is there. All the gauges work including the CLOCK! The steering wheel was refinished. All the little pieces like seatbelt “J” hooks and coat hangers are there. All the vinyl is in excellent condition as well as the plastic panels. The passenger door panel does have a very small hole down at the bottom of the panel. I had the fuzzy strips replaced on the top of the door panels. The seatbelts are in amazing condition with no fraying and the chrome still shines like new. The storage bins behind the seats still have the original foam inserts as well as the original jack. I saved an original steel wheel for the spare with a good tire.

Body/Chassis; This car truly has solid bones. One of the big reasons I invested money in this car was that it had such a great foundation. As far as I know. this car has never been in an accident. and the lines and gaps of the car seem to prove this. Rust is the big issue on these cars. and since this car spent most of its early years in Texas. the only area that needed work on this car was the rear quarter dog-legs.  Everything else on this car was rust free. The frame rails. floor boards. rear quarters are all original and solid. and not beat up! The underneath side of the car is amazingly clean and the car had been originally undercoated somewhere in its life. I had the whole underneath of the car and wheel wells recoated with some fresh 3M rubberized undercoat.

The original paint was shot and the body had quite a few beauty marks that had been accumulated over the years from storage and service. I had the car painted with Nason basecoat/clearcoat urethane. The color is supposed to replicate the original 903 for this year. but I think the painter grabbed the wrong paint code and applied Nissan 115. The engine compartment was not sprayed. so that's where there is a discernible difference in color. Under the close scrutiny one can find minor flaws in the paint job.

Of course all the rubber weather stripping was shot and had to be replaced. I also replaced the door handles. door mirror and upper door moldings that act as squeegees for the glass. All the Stainless trim is in good repair and shines up well. The original bumpers were in need of replacement. so I went with a “euro style” bumper at both ends. The front is an original chrome steel that is in amazing shape. and the rear bumper is a NEW polished SS bumper. All the emblems were either refurbished or replaced. The antenna is just a cheapo antenna to fill the hole while I tried to find an original. All the original glass is in good repair as well as all the light fixtures on this car.

Defects; The ignition switch sticks a bit during rotation.

The defroster button stays lit while ignition is on. Not sure what that means. but I haven't had need for a defroster for this car.

A/C does not work. but I have not tried to service it. Everything is there and I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Summary; I have tried to give an honest review of this car. In general. I would describe this as a major refresh on a solid car. All the major work has been done for you. and now this classic will just be a “Tinker Toy” for the weekends. The new owner can personalize. polish and plate to his/her desires and make this Z all their own. When you get this car out on the highway. you will really enjoy the way new taunt suspension and the robust L24 eat up the miles.   I would jump in this car and take it anywhere on a road trip.
