This is my MG TA which will represent a bargain purchase for somebody.  I am only selling because I have an opportunity to buy a vintage car that I consider to be even more desirable than my beloved TA. I need a speedy transaction. (payment within 7 days of the auction end).  . Anyone who knows MG TA`s will know that dealers ask upwards of £25K for average cars.  I am looking for considerably less.  MG TA`s are now VSCC eligible which has made them even more desirable.
I bought the car from a fellow VSCC member.  Prior to his ownership I believe the car had been in one family ownership from 1938 until the 1990`s.  It then went to a dealer who sold it to the man I bought it from.  I was told that the engine had been rebuilt in recent years and has done little work since.  Having run the engine I believe this to be true but do not have documented evidence. I was also told that the wheels were rebuilt. with 2 being new. and the seats & trim had been renewed in quality hide. (Definitely true but no documents to prove).  . When I bought the car the water pump had been sent to a well regarded specialist for rebuild and had been away a rather long time.  I had to chase it up with the specialist. get it completed. pay the bill and fit it to the car. This done I set about other jobs I considered needing doing.  These included new speedo cable. new stainless tank straps. new rear "D" lights. a spin-on oil filter conversion. radiator hose set. (for fitting the rebuilt pump). rear hub seals & gaskets. and a new tonneau cover so that I could use the car with hood down more easily.  I did many other little jobs including treating the duck hood where there was a little fading. . I intended using the car and gradually bringing it to "show" condition.
Here are the jobs to do. which is another reason for a relatively low price.  The car proved to have a "lazy" starter motor. Very slow to turn and no better with jump leads.  I removed the starter. cleaned & undercut the com. oiled com end & drive end bearings and bench tested.  All good.  . However. I haven`t refitted it to the car!  Removal & refit means dropping the sump. (a masterpiece of design!).  At the moment the sump is loosely fitted to save loosing nuts. washers. etc.  Oil is drained off. Bonnet is only loosely fitted. (Removed for ease of access).  I also removed the battery for checking. and removed main battery cables so that they could be replaced by new. Hoping to eliminate any volt drop-off between the battery and starter motor.
So there you have it. A lightly used. well looked after car with a strong probability of few owners once investigated.  Nicely patinated. (not showroom). condition.  A few jobs to do but nothing hugely difficult.  The last Tax & MOT` expired March 2012.  You cannot run the engine or drive the car. so a great degree of trust is called for.  See my ebay record. I am not out to con anybody and the price reflects the risk.  Starting the auction at £11950 but will listen to offers for a speedy transaction.
