1980 TURBO 4.9 TRANS AM INDY PACE CAR

Here we have for sale. a real collectors item. Read down for the interesting bit. Its a 1980 4. 9 V8 Turbo Trans Am Indy Pace Car. Florida survivor car with only 38574 original miles on the clock
It has a build sheet!
Not been on the road for 24 years. and not registered in UK yet. but with final sale. it will be UK registered and MOT'd for 12 months. Bodywork on this car is A1 MINT. Florida car so ZERO rust anywhere. Interior is good. but NOT mint. It is a 33 year old car so the interior is showing some signs of age. but nothing is ripped or broken. just a bit grubby. I will say that even though its a bit grubby. its actually in GREAT condition. if you consider the age of the car. Although the interior is 99% original. it does have a brand new dash. new carpet and center console. so these parts are mint. Paint has a few chips and a couple of scratches on it. The paint is not of show winning condition. but is very good and TOTALLY original. I will say that even though its NOT A1. you wont need to give this car a paint job for years yet. Its VERY acceptable and still looks real good on the car.
All the glass is good and still showing signs of the tints it had when in Florida. The original Pontiac decal is on the windscreen and good. as are all the other graphics.
Mechanics of this car are all A1. Engine has been out. checked. had all new gaskets installed and put back in. Engine is 100% original. and runs just as it did when it was brand new 33 years ago (just as you would expect with only 38500 miles on it). Transmission is a TH350 and shifts great. Its had a basic service. with new filters. gaskets and fluid. but has not been stripped apart. Doesnt need all that though because. like the engine. its absolutely A1The original Rochester Quadrajet carb is A1 and has just been fully stripped and serviced using a genuine Rochester Quadrajet carb rebuild kit
This car has electric windows that work. but are a bit slow. It has cruise control that works fineT/Tops. in great conditionIt is an A/C car and although is not on the car. all the parts come with the car. so should anyone want to put it back on and get it working again. you can do so
Original wheels are in A1 condition. and have brand new tyres
The underneath and chassis are all probably of show winning standards. EVERY BRAKE COMPONENT IS BRAND NEW AND NOT EVEN DONE 5 MILESEVERY SUSPENSION COMPONENT IS ALSO BRAND NEW AND ALSO NOT COVERED ANY MILEAGEChassis has been off the car. shot blasted and powder coated and looks better than new.
The exhaust is original with the exception of 2 new Magnaflow mufflers
I cant really explain the condition of this car in words and photographs. It needs to be seen in the flesh.
It isnt yet UK registered. with the thought being that the next owner being the FIRST registered keeper of the car. The sale does include registration though. so who ever buys it. i will register it to them.
The interesting bit:
This is a GENUINE Y85 Pace CarThis car comes with some very unique paper work that probably means it is the ONLY CAR ON THE PLANET WITH IT. Please dont think there is any value to this paperwork. because there isnt. but i will say that going with the car. just adds to its interest.
With this car we have letters from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway dated June 22nd 1979 written to Pontiac regarding using these cars to pace the 1980 race. These letters are not specific to this car. but just make the whole special edition a lot more interesting to have with the car. because its all very relative. We also have some original 1980 Indy Pace Car Turbo Trans Am merchandise brochures and some other bits and pieces. As i said. there is no financial attachment to this history. but its relevant to the car. goes with the car. and i almost guarantee that 33 years on. no one will have a car and these original letters all together.
Why are we selling our Turbo Trans Am? Because we need to free up some capital to invest in our business to grow it. Its not something we want to do. but we have other vehicles with special interests and we would like to think that in a couple of years when things are heading in the right direction for us again. we will be able to go buy another one.
