The DKW F5 is a small car with front-wheel drive of the brand DKW . which the Auto Union models in February 1935 as successor F2 and F4 brought to market.  The changes in appearance were minimal compared to its predecessors. but the F5 now a central box frame had instead of the subframe of two steel U-section side rails as a chassis made entirely of steel.  The independent suspension on transverse leaf springs was in the back by elevating the transverse leaf spring as a " floating axle running ".  Like all DKW "Front Car" (proprietary name) of the DKW F5 was in the Audi factory in Zwickau built.


The already in F2 champion class 701 used and front transverse-mounted two-cylinder - two stroke engine ( parallel twin ) with Schnürle - reverse circulation provided and two overflow channels.  The engines contributed to the kingdom class with 0. 6 liters engine capacity 18 hp and during themaster class with 0. 7 liters of displacement 20 hp.  Over a three-speed transmission with Krückstockschalthebel he drives the front wheels.  On the new box frame were like its predecessors. nbsp;leatherette -covered plywood body placed. the DKW factory in Berlin-Spandau were manufactured.  imperial and Master Class were a two-door convertible sedans or limousines available.


1936. offered by both types of full convertible.  Of the 600 cc kingdom class. there was a two-seater with a shorter wheelbase. the DKW Front two-seater F5K 600. nbsp;and the 700 cc master class a two-and a four-seater with the name DKW Front luxury convertible F5 700th Also. there was a two-seatroadster with a shorter wheelbase than DKW Front luxury sports F5K 700th In the front-luxury sports car . the DKW typical plywood frame body was covered with metal sheets instead of artificial leather.  Due to high demand. the bodies of the front luxury models were also in Meerane manufactured by Hornig.

As early as 1936 ended the production of sedans. 1937. the sports car.  A total of 74. 95 cars emerged (of which 16. 54 Master Class convertible sedan) and 3085 front-luxury convertibles before the successor DKW F7 appeared.
