Rare 1988 classic Austin Mini ‘Mary Quant’ Designer, 998cc, only 91k miles for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.25) based on 118 votes

Rare low mileage (91k miles) classic little 80's Austin Mini ‘Mary Quant' Designer special edition, for re-commissioning/restoration or just tidy up and run ‘as-is'.

(Please note that it's the white Mini that is offered for sale, the black Mini is not available)

This classic Mini is quite a rare little car as it is a limited edition Mini ‘Mary Quant' Designer, very few made and only sold for one year in 1988. I know that Mini did lots of special editions over the years, but most were just standard cars with a couple of stickers stuck on the outside in order to differentiate them. This is a proper limited car, with the interior specifically designed by Mary Quant herself, to celebrate her previous association with the Mini and the swinging 60's.

I bought this little beauty earlier this year in order to restore and to compliment another black Mini ‘Mary Quant' Designer I already had (see pic). However, personal circumstances mean that I don't think I'll get around to this one anytime soon. I can't drive two anyway, so I have decided to offer the white one for sale (you could only get these cars in either black or white and in a very limited production run).

This car has all the original Mary Quant features, which include the black and white striped seats with embossed Mary Quant logo, the special steering wheel with the trademark daisy centre cap emblem, red seat belts all round, plus the original and correct trim/door cards and interior side panels. The Mary Quant badge is still present on the bonnet too.

The car has been off the road for 3/4 years standing unused as the previous owner had gone off to London to work and didn't intend returning any time soon. It was a running, driving, in use and MOT'd car when taken off the road (2018) and has not been submitted for an MOT since.

I have done a little bit tinkering, cleaned out fuel lines, fresh petrol, etc. and it now starts on the button and runs well. The choke is a little sticky and I think the carb would benefit from a proper full strip down and clean. The brakes are good and it is also (imho) structurally very sound. I do not think it will require a great deal of work to get through an MOT, although as you can see from the pictures, it is ‘cosmetically challenged' in places.

It will obviously require further re-commissioning and attention ‘as and where' required, but it looks FAR better than some similar cars seen recently seen for sale. Unless you want to run it with a patina'd rat look (it does look quite cool), then the paint will obviously need redoing as it has previously been stickered up with broad stripes (since partially removed) and the paint is cracking in many places. Also, the body does have surface rust as pictured. The floors are all solid, although there is minor surface rust on the driver's side internally (both foot wells are shown in pics). The car is relatively solid for its age and you are most welcome to come and have a look and poke about yourself.

As far as I can tell, it is original and complete apart from the radio, which I recently removed to fit to another vehicle - I have not ‘stolen' any other parts!  It will come with either; a set of its original 12” steel wheels with the original Austin hubcaps (pictured) as fitted to lots of later 80's Mini's, OR a set of 12” Minator/Minilite alloy wheels. Please note that the original steel wheels/hubcaps all hold air and are currently on the car, two of the Minators/Minilites are flat and do not (you may see a mix of wheels on some pics). The buyer will need to let me know which wheels they want at least 24 hours prior to collection, thank you.

The car is 'collection only' and will need to be picked up with a trailer/truck (it cannot be driven away). The battery is flat but will be charged so it will start and run fine in order to be driven onto said truck/trailer, but the car should NOT be driven any distance until properly re-commissioned and MOT'd. Also, I cannot guarantee the long term condition of the battery due to the car standing a while.

Please note that a £250 deposit will be required immediately on an agreed sale, with the car collected and paid for in full within a further 7 days (there may be some flexibility on pick up timescales by prior agreement, as long as the car is paid for in full within 7 days). No PayPal please, cash or bank transfer only, thank you.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Best regards,

Kevin

PS - I may be able to recommend a delivery man, depending on distance and availability, please ask if this is of any interest to you.
