1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II

We've always had a soft-spot for Shadows and this is an absolute cracker. Presented in stunning Highland Green with Cream Everflex roof and Beige hide. this fabulous example with only 52. 00 miles recorded comes with extensive main dealer and RR specialist history and has been enjoyed by just 4 private keepers from new.

The history of the Shadow is well-documented as over its 15-year production run (1965-1980). over 25. 00 standard steel saloons were produced making it without doubt the most popular production car built by the company. Mechanically little changed over this 15 years with the same with the earlier cars powered by a 6. 2 litre V8 producing 172BHP and the later cars (post 1980) gaining a slight power increase from a 6. 75 litre V8. Both were mated to a GM-sourced Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic gearbox and benefitted from the car's most innovative feature. a high-pressure hydraulic system licensed from Citroen with duel-circuit brakes and self-levelling suspension offering a ride quality second to none. The Shadow II (1977 onwards) benefitted from rack and pinion steering and suspension modifications improving handling characteristics markedly over the earlier cars.

Our car was supplied new by Mann Egerton & Co. Ltd. of Norwich in June 1978. This particular dealership maintained the car until 1980 whereupon the second private keeper moved to Leicestershire and the car was subsequently serviced by Mann Egerton in Leicester. In October 1981. a replacement speedometer (at 11. 30 miles) was included as part of the annual service. This is further documented in a letter dated December 1981 by the principle at the dealership. ME Leicester continued to maintain the car through the 1980`s with annual servicing recorded up to 30. 04 miles by December 1988. The car was sold soon thereafter to a businessman in Leeds who used the services of Royce Service in Bradford and Shadow Vehicle Services of Leeds for future maintenance. In March 1996. the car was sold to Hooper Alpe Ltd. of London who subsequently sold the car to it's 4th private keeper in September of the same year. Whilst with Hooper Alpe. the car was serviced in July 1996(38. 07 miles) and again in April 1997 for the new keeper. The car then moved to Gloucestershire where it has resided to this day in the hands of the same gentleman. Over the past 17 years. the car has been maintained by a local specialist being used very much as a high-days and holidays “treat” covering just 14. 00 miles in total. Importantly though. the car has been regularly driven and serviced with annual MOT inspections documenting continual use.

Today the car presents and drives beautifully. The Highland Green coach-work is virtually without blemish. the Beige hide interior in superb order with just the light patina of enjoyment with excellent wood and leather head-lining. whilst mechanically she is quiet and offers plenty of performance when required.

In addition to the full original dealer pack and stamped-up service book. the car comes with a comprehensive file of receipts. every old MOT Certificate from 1981 to the present day and a current Certificate to May 2014.

A true British great benefitting from low ownership. low mileage and nice provenance.
