1928 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Shooting Brake.

Chassis number 84FH
Engine Number SK95
Registration number: RY3315

A magnificent & imposing car well suited to the lover of hunting. shooting & fishing. The car was originally bodied as a six light saloon by Knibbs of Manchester.

The current body was constructed during the war by Weavers coach-builders at which time it was used to carry aircraft engineers. pilots & tools to stricken aircraft. Jim Bidwell related to a friend that the car. as a shooting brake could be registered as a commercial vehicle & recieve an increased petrol ration allocation. After the war is was acquired by Mirable Topham of Aintree racecourse where the car became a regular sight & fixture based at Paddock Lodge in Ainstree. James Bidwell-Topham had the car until as late as 1984.

After the war the car went to Hoopers for major body modifications & must surely rank as one of the more elegant bodies to have left their premises. Although the hubs are original. the rims were modified by Hoopers to take the existing 19" tyres. The Hooper style is readily recognized from the hard chine line along the scuttle & the forward swept moulding where the scuttle meets the door pillar.

The car has been part of a small collection of equally spectacular cars which is now being broken up. In the last few years the car has had a nut & bolt mechanical restoration without regard to expense. Thus the engine is completely silent & runs with effortless power as it would have done when new. The engine rebuild itself is covered by a dossier of over 100 pictures minutely detailing the works done to the car. The brakes. drive train & rear Axle have also all had extensive work undertaken on them.

The interior is beautifully patinated brown leather along with matching brown carpets. There is seating available for 7 adults in the first three rows & a couple of smaller loader/gun bearers to the rear. The rear seats lift out & may be used as picnic seats outside the car.

We will be displaying the car on our stand in hall 3 at Technoclassica Essen. The car is in stock at our premises & available for immediate viewing.
