For Sale is a super rare 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix with completely rebuilt. smooth running. high torque and high horsepower 426 engine. This car has a low reserve.
The car has a completely rebuilt. rare. 426 engine. The casting number is 1852029 which means it is a 1963-65. 426 C. I. with a nickel strengthened steel block. The engine was professionally built about 2500 miles ago and punched out to a 440. The previous owner. who was in very poor health and had to sell the car. had all the work done in Milwaukee. so I do not know all the exact specs or know everything about the engine. The engine has 440 heads on it with porting and polishing. and valve work done. I do not know the exact cam. but it is a mid-range rpm cam. It has an Edelbrock aluminum performer RPM. dual Plane intake with a powder coated Holley 650 carb. The radiator is a 4 core aluminum radiator for extra cooling. The engine has a MSD electronic ignition and coil. The transmission is a rebuilt 727 with shift kit. that still retains the push button shifting and tranny equipped parking brake. The front brakes have been changed to disc brakes.
This is a 4 door hardtop which is the rare post free Dodge Dart Phoenix. Dodge only made 20. 16 four-door hardtops. and of these around 6. 00 were Phoenix models. When front and rear windows are rolled down there is no post separation between front and back. The dodge dart phoenix is the rarest of the Dodge Darts and the luxury top of the line model above the Seneca and Pioneer. 1960 was the first year of the Dodge dart. This Phoenix originally came with a 318 V8. but now has the much more powerful 426. The interior has been reupholstered in thicker red and black vinyl. Overall this is one cheap hot rod that gets all the looks. According to the last owner there is less than 50 still registered in the US.
Condition:
Although this car is not perfect it is a pretty nice car. and would be a great starting point for further restoration. This is an older restoration and but the overall condition is good. The engine is about perfect. The power steering pump leaks a little from one of the seals. and will need rebuilt eventually. The battery has a quick disconnect on it. which I take off when the car sits for a period of time to keep the battery from going dead. There might be a small draw from somewhere in the car. The underside of the car is coated in rust proof coating. This car is almost rust free. with 3 small bubbles on hood as shown in the pictures. A couple of the trim pieces have dents in them. but the car is almost perfectly straight. The floor boards solid and the trunk pan looks like it was replaced at one time.
The dash is in pretty good shape. but needs some touch up work. Some of the chrome pieces have pitting on them. The car has a cd player installed. which was poorly done. I have an original radio which will go with the car. I did not install it. The glove box has the liner taken out and a speaker was installed. The glove box liner comes with the car and is in the trunk. The sun visors are not installed and also in the trunk. The headliner is wrinkled in spots. and has a small repair job behind the rear seats. The trim and chrome around the car is original and has small pitting and scratches. The rear bumper is the worst of the chrome. and the door handles and roof vents have the worst surface pitting. The chrome around the window vents is very good on the outside but only fair to decent on the inside. The car was repainted about 5 years ago. and takes a great shine. There are some spots on the passenger door that were touched up. and also on the front fender. Some of the original chrome has some pitting. There are about $800-$1000 worth of trim and chrome parts. which were never put on the car. I was going to replace some of the trim that had pitting or were dented. These parts are super hard to find. So included in this sale will be door handles. steering wheel horn bezel. side and door trim. All these pieces are in pretty good shape. Some are NOS in the box. Hope this helps the new car owner. with some really rare parts for this car.
Overall this is a cool car that grabs a lot of attention. It runs and drives well. quite powerful. and a really kind of a hot rod sleeper.
Comes with Owners manual. and car brochure.
