The 507 over the years went missing and wasn't ever found. The Bertone-bodied 503 Cabriolet's official production began in the summer of 1956. The BMW 503 Cabriolet is notable as the first German automobile to have an electrically-operated power top. The 503 also touts welded tubular frame construction, aluminum panels, an alloy V-8 engine, and very high quality appointments; all of this made the car very expensive to build, and production of the cabriolet was thus limited to a mere 139 units. In "German Reflections" [ Road & Track" June 1956 ] Hansjoerg Bendel said, in part: " The 503 tried and proved to be, at least for my tast, the car of the show..I found out that it represents a well nigh ideal combination of really outstanding performance, first rate road holding and a high degree of comfort...." I regard the BMW 503 in every respect as a dream come true...."Motor Car Offered:This example is a later model having been built in 1958. The history is easy to trace as past owner  retained this rare classic for 62 years. The owner commissioned a ground up restoration in and around 2013 - 2015. With virtually no test miles and car sitting a few years post restoration it was entrusted to a Colorado shop known for Concours winning restorations to refresh car for the intention of passing vehicle to a new caring collector. Recent service work included brakes, top mechanism, engine, carbs, ZF geabox etc to the amount of $60,000. A few minor cosmetic repairs from garage nicks were also performed. Cosmetically the car is stunning which exudes class and elegance. It comes with it's original engine according to BMW Archives at factory. Also with the correct Zenith Carburetors. It has been driven in testing since refresh approx 150 miles. All this current service work has been on going over last 18 months.
