ROVER P5B COUPE 3.5 Litre. 1971 Three owners from new. 62,000 miles only.

ROVER 3.5 LITRE COUPE  1971   Three Owners.Supplied new by Mann Egerton Derby on 18th March 1971.  Finished in possibly the most sought after colour combination of admiralty blue with a silver birch roof and buckskin upholstery.  This car has quite an interesting history being owned from 1971 through to 1985 by its first owner a local Derby resident.  I knew the car back in the 1980s and it was a truly outstanding example.  It then passed to its second owner, possibly no more than two miles apart from each other.  The second owner stored the car in his garage for a long period of time and was used very seldom.   She now will require a full recommissioning and restoration.  The 62,000 miles recorded is no doubt the correct mileage.  Quite a time warp motor car still wearing its factory applied admiralty blue and silver birch cellulose paint and rare and correct coachlines, which are again the factory applied ones.   Panelwork appears all original including the rear wings which now require replacement ( a very good pair of these are included with the car, and again they just happen to be admiralty blue).  No welding has been carried out on the vehicle, so anyone starting this restoration is not uncovering other peoples either untidy or incorrect repairs.  The rear end of the vehicle which is usually the first point to rot on these cars, appears surprisingly good.  Excellent rear inner wings, rear outer and inner valance, rear chassis legs all good.  Boot floor sound and boot floor corners.  A small repair may be required near to the battery box.  Tonneau panels will require a small repair at the base in the usual manner, but not excessive.  Inner and outer sills will be required to do a correct job, these easily obtainable.  The only panels not original are the front wings which i have replaced with a pair of good used ones which have been temporarily fitted. The last owner removed the front wings and had them blasted to carry out small repairs.  Unfortunately he did little more with them and they were very rusty when discovered and really beyond saving.  I still have them but they are of little use.  It was noted that while the front wings were removed the box sections on the inner wings were very good and obviously free from any previous repairs.  There are nice little touches like the original Mann Egerton dealer number plates are fitted, and the boot tools are correct and present.  A period radio is in place and still works.  Mechanically the car is untested.  Having been unused for many years i would recommend a stripdown and checkover first.The car rolls freely.  Comes complete with V5C document, keys, handbooks and original workshop manuals.  Representing an affordable way into P5B Coupe ownership with top examples now commanding between 35k and 40K with a good history.  Low ownership and mileage being key.  This is a project i would have liked to complete myself, having previously owned P5Bs and brought them up to a high standard.  I would recommend this is suitable for a professional restorer or someone with knowledge of the marque.  These were virtually handbuilt cars, and are not the best starting point for a novice unless you are talented.  Viewing is welcome.  Any questions please contact Keith via email or telephone on 07970 856108.  A £500 deposit will be required within 24 hours of sale and collection within 7 days of purchase.  Full balance to be paid prior to or on collection in cash or bank transfer.  The car is located in the East Midlands close to junctions 26 or 28 M1.
