1974 MG MIDGET - K-series Caterham powered - very special little car for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 599 votes
New business venture has led to the possible sale of this well known. very special little MG.

(I will only be listing it once. so if it doesn't sell at my reserve - then I'll keep it and sell something else instead)

This is my own MG Midget - its a 1974 - so not tax exempt - but not far off it.

I've owned it since October 2009.

It has an MOT until October 2014 and its taxed until the end of February 2014 so it can be driven away and used regularly. I keep it on the road all year and try to use it as often as possible.

The special thing about this Midget is that its very much uprated in a useable way.

It is fitted with a 1400cc Caterham Supersport K-series engine - this is putting out 119bhp at at 6488rpm (as per Aldon Automotive rolling road on the MGCC Midget Register day out - graph to prove it). This engine is very strong and runs great - but I don't know the exact mileage of it - there are no head gasket issues though.

It has a Ford type 9 5 speed gearbox which gives great acceleration but also great relaxed cruising speeds

It has a Catherham gearbox bellhousing and uses a cable clutch.

It has a stainless exhaust which has a distinctive twin pipe back box - looks and sounds great - search you tube for k-midget and you'll find the vid clips of it

The petrol tank is mounted in the boot which reduces luggage capacity (but that's never bothered me)

It has MGF leather seats fitted which are very comfy and in good condition. It has a Moto-Lita wood rim steering wheel with a one off centre boss. The gauges are VDO gauges (except for the oil pressure one)

It has frontline front suspension (that was expensive to buy!) and it has drilled/grooved front discs.

It is currently on 14" mini-lite style wheels with 3 good tyres and one which will need changing soonish

The bodywork is very solid and presentable

It has a good condition lightweight hardtop and there is also a decentish hood with it.

This car drives very well indeed with great performance and economy

It is very well known in the Midget and Sprite Club and the MGCC (the MGCC has a register dedicated to these K series cars)

It is very cheap to insure. even with the modifications above.

Bad bits - Its my car so I could easily pick it to bits and be mega critical. however I'd like to point out;

The paint looks very smart and shiney however it has lifted in places on the rear wing tops - this has been touched in but not very well done
There is a small dent on the passenger side rear wing (dents R us or similar could remove it easily without paint damage)
There are a couple of small bits of rust beginning to come through on the base of one A-post and one rear wheel arch - not really noticeable unless I point them out.
Oil pressure shows as 50lb at start up and 25lb the rest of the time - no funny noises or smoke from the engine though
It runs cool all the time - only gets to 65/70 degrees - I think that the radiator is too efficient and I was going to put a standard midget one back in

Thats about it though - it is a great little car and always puts a huge grin on your face when driving it.

I apologise for my pictures - but this is a constantly evolving car and I've got hundreds of pictures of it with/without bumper and with various different sets of wheels on it!

Boring bits - its an auction - there is a reserve for a reason and I will not reveal this - so don't waste your or my time asking what do I want for it.

I am only prepared to sell it to genuine buyers - People who sell dogs/horses etc vet potential purchasers and I will do the same with this car - I will ony sell it to an enthusiast - not someone who will wrap it round a lampost on the first damp roundabout that they encounter.

I'm happy to send pics. discuss and answer questions (except for the whats the reserve one) either via the ask seller button or on 07970 213084 (evenings only after 5:30pm)

If you are a zero rated bidder or have negative feedback - please ask me before bidding or I'll cancel your bids - also if you have a son/daughter/grandad/dog/cat/parrot who also uses your ebay account to bid for you then please make sure that they don't bid on this unless you are prepared to buy this for them as a Christmas present.

Please look at my other auctions as I'm usually selling other MG related items
