If you couldn't pony up the “MILLIONS" for the “Risky Business 928”at Barrett Jackson's Auction last week ($1,980,000.00), here is your opportunity to own a car that is just like it, only this 928 was produced 346 cars before“RB-928”. Each of the '79 928's were individually hand built. Introduced as the replacement for Porsche's iconic 911, the 928 was Porsche's only front engine V-8 coupe. Most '79 5-speeds were built without sunroof, body side moldings, or power seats. This 928 is so equipped. The'79 model 5-speed is said to be the most sought after of the 928 production line.

This particular, 4 owner, New Mexico car, was obtained from a garage where it had lived untouched for over a decade, preserved for some lucky 928 enthusiast/collector to have and to hold. But if you are still reading this then you probably already knew that.

While Tom Cruise never drove this car (as far as we know), this 928 is nearly identical to the car he learned to drive stick shift in during the filming of the 80's classic “Risky Business”.  If you have not experienced the thrill of driving a 928 5-speed think: Acceleration, Torque, and Butter. When you settle into the cockpit it will remind you of your grandfather's leather backgammon game. The precision of the balanced chassis makes this car feel like it is on rails. The torque makes it feel like the tires are grappling into the pavement. Driving this automobile is pure Zen. On the highway, downshift from 5th to 4th and mash the throttle you will feel like a Formula One driver. The timeless style of the 928's lines will make you the envy of any gathering from frat party to the country club. It just turns heads. But if you are still reading this you probably already knew that.

This car has NOT been restored or professionally detailed. Other than the paint and radio, this car is pretty much like it was when purchased new in 1979 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After recovery, It was professionally serviced and brought up to a safe running condition. The 928 was fitted with new tires and the entire fuel system was sanitized. Engine oil and coolant were serviced, and the engine runs very well for a car of its age and mileage. We have driven the car approximately 500 miles in all types of conditions. When you release the hood, you will notice that hood release is perfectly intact and functional. If you turn on the A/C, the compressor cycles indicating there is remaining R-12 refrigerant in the system. The dash is free of cracks apart from one in the middle of the dash pod. The front sun visors are true and work flawlessly. The factory plastic tire change gloves and flat tire bag are still with the spare. The warranty booklet shows the handwritten ownership transfers and most of the services being performed at the dealership. These types of details indicate that this car has been very nicely cared for. But if you are still reading this you probably knew that.

Just to be clear, this is a 42-year-old car and is we are not looking for a fully restored price. Here is a list of items we know do not operate properly; Power Antenna, Cruise, Mirror Switch, Vacuum Door Locks, Fuel Gauge, Rear Hatch Latch, A/C charge only (compressor is cycling). We are also aware of a small transmission gear box leak and an oil leak at or near the distributor base. All the tools from the tool kit are missing, but the plastic carrier is in good shape. These are all very common issues with early 928's. But again you probably knew that.

The “Risky Business 928” is likely the most iconic movie car that has ever helped push the sales of any single model of automobile. This was the 1983 version of “Going Viral”. When Tom Cruise looked at the camera after the infamous chase scene through the streets of Chicago and echoed the phrase “Porsche, there is no substitute” Porsche dealers all over the world jumped up and down with excitement. But if you are still reading this you probably knew that.

Well, now it seems that this particular 928 will also be making an appearance on the screen. This nearly famous 928 is going to appear in a few scenes of the final season of “Better Call Saul” the prequel to “Breaking Bad”.  Bonus, this 928 has never seen the depths of Lake Michigan!

So here is your chance to own a piece of history-almost. The difference is you can own this one for $1,964,000.00 less than RB-928!
