1948 Rover 16 Sixteen P2 Six Light Saloon, the highly desirable  Six Cylinder Model

I've owned this car for the last 10 years, when I first got it  I thought the paintwork needed some attention but it drove so well  that  just enjoyed it rather than pulling it to pieces.  I have had a lot of pleasure with it including finishing the notorious Beamish Reliability Road Run 4 times. Once getting a trophy for the best Post War Car. As a result the paintwork never got done and is now  needing some attention in my opinion, or you could still run it as is.

I had it covered over last winter but was devastated to find the water had been leaking in and ruined the previously very tidy headcloth. I had to remove it so now it doesn't have one.  The leather seats are original  and have some expected wear and tear. The leather is quite hard and could benefit from some conditioning. The Drivers seat has a hole which can be seen in the photos the rear seat has a small tear about 1" long. The door cards have been re made at some time and are tidy. The carpets have been replaced and they are very tidy also. The running boards seem solid but the rubber is starting to perish and crack.  Front bumper chrome is nice with a couple of  rust spots, the rear corner bumpers are very rusty and need re chroming.

The tyres all have excellent tread but as usual, the sidewalls have developed cracks with standing

I've added lots of pictures and videos here:   https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qGTFoO57DxW6da-CKYyoUq-imtr4L1Wn?usp=sharing

Please copy and past the link into your browser's address bar at the top of its page , (not just into a Google search). I've taken pictures of  most of the parts that need addressing, I'll add more over the weekend, please check out all of them to get an idea of the  work required rather than me  listing every detail

It is a very solid car which still runs really well and has great brakes. it has been continually taxed and insured. It has never failed to start first time.  Admittedly it hasn't been used lately so it will need a good check over. One thing I noticed the last time I had it out was that when we went over a bad pot hole in the road, the steering wheel had a proper shimmy for a couple of seconds, this needs addressing

Polished up it looks  great from a few paces but  looking closer you can see the bad bits. They are the usual rusty spots nothing major

You could restore it completely and end off with a £24k car or address the bodywork, check over the mechanicals and use it.

There is some slight water damage to the left corner of the lower dashboard, this part was always plywood with a solid top, this would be an easy repair. The solid wood door caps and the dash top are excellent but could do with re varnishing

It has a stainless steel exhaust fitted

The original factory radio has always worked but  as of last week it doesn't  seem to now for some reason

I have the Heritage Certificate which shows that the car was built on 2nd December 1947, despatched on 16th December 1947 and the destination dealer was Henleys of London Ltd.

I always try my best to give an honest description, sometimes making things sound much worse that they are, I'm more than happy to let serious bidders view and drive the car to judge for themselves. I am located in Chester le Street, Co. Durham (DH2)

I'm letting the auction run to the end and won't be removing it  halfway through so you can bid with confidence.  I don't have a buy it now price so please don't ask. I'm hoping genuine classic car enthusiasts will see the true value in this lovely old car. It is a very reluctant sale.
