1957 Ford Panel Van

1957 Ford panel van / suburban. 292 Y block and 3 on the tree transmission.I've owned this since 2018. When it arrived from the states it was an 80s nightmare. Padded vinyl roof, porthole windows, velvet day van seats and more filler than Jordan. I have fixed it starting from the top, the vinyl came off, the filler was removed, the cardboard and chicken wire that was behind the filler was cut out and new steel was welded in. We used minimal filler because I hate it. That means some repairs aren't flat as glass but at least you know it's all steel. It wasn't a million dollar job and since 2018 a couple of bits look a little tired but very minor and I have plenty of paint to go with the truck. The upper sides of the van were really badly pitted from where the vinyl had let water in and there was evidence of several previous porthole styles being cut in. I decided that the best option was to cut out as much as we could and replace it with glass. The side windows are a great addition. So much more light and so much easier to drive in the wrong side when you can see almost everywhere! A proper bench seat was found, recovered and fitted, a new front carpet was fitted and it looks way better in there. The truck is running a 292 Y block motor and a three on the tree transmission. The carb is still a bit gummed up so it's a touch flat for a second if you ease the throttle on but I will strip it and clean it again next week if I can. A set of new jets would sort it right out. We fitted a new clutch plate, new clutch master and slave cylinders and the brakes were all refurbished or replaced. It's still got 57 brakes so you have to be awake, but it stops just fine. The front and rear screens were removed and new rubbers were fitted. The entire underside was cleaned right back and protected for uk use, the wheels where blasted and powder coated. I do have mini moon style hub caps also powder coated but I liked it without so never fitted them. Brand new tyres were fitted this year. It's a great looking truck, pretty rare and it drives nice. There is still plenty of work to do if you want a show truck. I never got around to a headlining or to painting the inside but you can if that's your thing. It needs door seals front and rear. The electrics are American and old……the important buys seem to work although the fuel gauge doesn't. I'm sure there is a load more you will want to know do feel free to message me.
