February 1954 Austin A40 Somerset which has been in the same ownership for the last 42 years and has a rallying history. Only 84,000 miles.

I am selling this lovely old Austin on behalf of a friend who does not have an Ebay account.

As mentioned the current owner Ranjan Thilagarajah (A consultant surgeon) has owned it for 42 years having been bought for him as his first car by his parents in 1979. He has used it as a main car in the early 1980's and has later kept it garaged, cherished it and rallied it. It has taken part in the Monte Carlo Rallye Historique (2007 and 2008).

It has had thousands spent on it over the decades which would exceed its value many times over.

It is with mixed feelings that he is parting with it but has decided it is now time to sell it on. It is seldom driven and needs to be used. The vehicle has a massive history file, including the old RF60 green log book and stacks of receipts.

I would describe the condition as 1B. The body work is in very good condition with no rot, the paintwork has a few minor blemishes which does not detract from the overall appearance. The underneath is completely solid with no rot to be found. Chrome is good due to it being garaged all its life, the interior is excellent having red leather seats which have a nice aged patina a good carpet set and good door cards. It also has a sliding steel sun roof.

Mechanically it is excellent with a 1200cc 4 cylinder engine running off an SU carburettor with electronic ignition and electric fuel pump. Car has only covered 84,000 miles. Gearbox and drivetrain are all good and drives as it should.Obviously MOT and tax exempt, ready to drive away.

There is a large box of spares to go with the car along with an indoor car cover, all the hub caps and a set of 5 spare wheels and studded tyres.

All of the rally additions can be reversed to put it back to standard if required.
