This incredible example combines the best in options and upgrades with an already proven and reliable chassis and body to create 2500lbs. of raw and unbridled performance and handling.

DESCRIPTION

 

 

BACKDRAFT RACING (WWW. BACKDRAFTRACING. COM) is the premiere builder of some of the finest bespoke Shelby Cobra replicas that have ever been created.

 

They are hand built. and have an impressive history of long-term value retention when compared to other fledgling companies.

 

This car is. for all intent and purpose. brand new. It was completed and delivered in MAY of 2013. and has just over 400 careful miles from its original owner. It was just picked up by Backdraft for its initial service and break-in adjustment checkup. and will be ready for the next owner to drive and enjoy upon receipt.

 

The car is BUILD #1213. and has been extensively upgraded and customized to create one of the finest example of a Cobra replica available.

 

The exterior of the car is finished in 2013 Mercedes-Benz Iridium Silver with Obsidian Black stripes completed by Brilliant Red accent stripes.

 

The look is elegant. aggressive. and classic all at once. and the finish is as flawless and fault free as one would expect of a 400 mile car. Upon delivery of the car. the prior owner had the vehicle extensively detailed. color sanded. and buffed to lustrous perfection that you see in the photos below.

 

I have gone over the vehicle with a fine-tooth comb and cannot find any damage. cracks. chips. or scratches in the cars finish. It shows like new. This is partly because the car is equipped with the optional 3M Paint Protection film applied to the rear fenders directly at Backdraft Racing.

 

The iconic open side-pipe look of the Cobra is captured perfectly on this car by a set of optional Ceramic Coated Headers that collect and gather into the Ceramic Coated Side outlet exhaust. The coated works to dissipate heat quicker and avoid the discoloration typically found in steel or aluminum pipes.

 

The car currently has a set of chromed stainless steel “cheese-grater” exhaust heat shield covers installed. but also comes with a brand-new set in powder-coated black too. for a more aggressive appearance.

 

All of the bright-work on the car is in the powder-coated Carbon Black finish. and that includes the windshield frame. roll bar. Raydot driver and passenger mirrors. fuel door. windshield wiper arms. hood levers. headlight bezels. tail lamp bezels. turn signal bezels. and front and rear jack plates. The combined effect is one that truly must be seen in person to feel. but it is absolutely stunning.

 

The headlamps currently installed on the car are the classis TRIPOD design. but a complete HALO HEADLAMP Kit is also included with the car for a different. more aggressive look.

 

Up front. the optional oil cooler system can be seen. and does wonders to keep operating temps in check.

 

Finally. the brake calipers at all four corners have been treated to powder-coating in high temperature red.

 

When it came to select rolling stock for the car. a decision was made to forgo the usual polished or chrome rims and go with a powder-coated black rim. This decision than led to deciding to take all of the bright work on the car and have it powder-coated in black as well. giving the car a unique and aggressive look that appears more race-ready than the most.

 

The rims themselves are 18” in size and are fully functional spin off/on rims with a show polished spinner and heavy-duty safety wire unit on each rim.

 

They are free from any curb damage. debris marks. or issues. and are wrapped in deluxe NITTO NT555 Extreme Drag radial tires sized P245/50ZR18 up front and P335/30ZR18 out back. The tires afford a level of traction and control not found in other basic performance radials. and are like brand new with just over 400 miles on them.

 

Open the doors on this Roadster. and you are greeted with a classically finished interior in luxurious Ebony hides with deluxe stitching on the panel work. From the dash to the door panels. the car is fully trimmed and looks stunning.

 

A complete carpet kit is custom cut and banded before being installed over a layer of sound and heat insulating material. and it is covered by a set of banded and trimmed BACKDRAFT RACING logo floor mats.

 

The BACKDRAFT logo is also stitched into the seat back tops. between the down straps of the driver and passenger racing harnesses.

 

The emergency brake handle boot is treated to the stitching to compliment the rest of the car. and the optional Short Throw Shifter is perfectly angled and has a black powder-coated base with rubber boot and Shelby Snake shift ball.

 

The center console also houses the optional Chrome Fire Extinguisher unit.

 

The car comes complete with a full set of seven AutoMeter Professional Series gauges which are electronically controlled with a stepper motor. which Backdraft has found to be much more proven and reliable than other methods.

 

The optional Mota-Lita leather steering wheel is a gorgeous compliment to the rest of the car. and looks and feels perfect in the car.

 

There are no signs of any wear. damage. or issues of any kind with any part of this vehicles interior. and it shows showroom new in every single aspect.

 

If you know BACKDRAFT. you are more than aware of the handling prowess they are known for. and long-standing utilization of the BMW M3 chassis design and components. so you can skip this next section. For the uninitiated. BACKDRAFT has a reputation as one of the best handling Cobra replicas built. and for good reason.

 

The ladder-type chassis is fabricated in a jig from SAE 1008 2' x 4' hot rolled rectangular steel tubing. with a 1/8” wall thickness. which provides a sturdy chassis. both in beam strength and in torsion rigidity. The chassis is reinforced with laser cut steel gusset plates in several areas for added strength in high stress areas.

 

The chassis has been designed to accept a race proven independent rear suspension with coil over struts in the front.

The differential is fully rubber mounted to the chassis in a cradle. eliminating mechanical differential noise and providing a smooth drive.

 

The chassis has been designed from the start to accept the 427R Roush motor and Tremec transmission it was equipped with.

 

For added safety the chassis has been designed with a front crumple zone and the roll bar is structurally mounted to the chassis.

 

The front suspension used on the BDR RT3 roadster features a cast lower wishbone with a McPherson style coil over strut.

 

The strut has been custom fabricated to suit the needs of the Backdraft Roadster. An adjustable stabilizer bar which assists with the overall fine tuning of the car's handling is also installed.

 

The car is equipped with a rack and pinion steering system with 4 turns lock to lock as the standard ratio. It is incredibly easy to steer at low speeds. but provides an almost direct response to input when auto-crossing or enjoying the twisties.

 

The steering column is made from high quality stainless steel tubing connecting to a CNC machined billet aluminum steering boss.

 

Setting the power safely to the ground is handled by a centrally guided multilink rear suspension.

 

The independent rear suspension offers camber and toe adjustments. It is also fully height adjustable which makes it easier to fine tune for street and track use.

 

The suspension has proven itself both on and off the race track. In conjunction with the front coil over struts you are guaranteed a thrilling driving experience.

 

When all is said and done though. a Cobra just really isn’t a Cobra unless it is equipped with a powertrain worthy of the name. and this is where this particular car excels!

 

Jack Roush and his crew at ROUSH PERFORMANCE were tapped to create the perfect motor. and they did.

 

This ROUSH 427R – 1076 engine was built with the following specifications:

After being Dyno Tested. the engine was personally signed by Jack Roush. and treated to a half polish and cleared intake manifold and 3” Gilmer Pulley system. upgraded wires. and performance plugs before being sent to BACKDRAFT RACKING for installation.

 

Once at BACKDRAFT. the motor was mated to a custom built TREMEC TKO 600 Transmission. which is more than stout enough to make sure power gets to the ground without any drama.

 

Between the engine and transmission units alone. the investment level exceeded $27. 00. 00!

 

The car is perfectly set-up. and is as balanced as anything on the road.

 

Handling is razor-like perfection. and with the racing style NITTO tires. the car has no difficulty getting power to the ground off the line. and keeping it in check in the corners.

This car is absolutely stunning. and needs nothing to drive and enjoy right now. It comes complete with the ignition keys. a custom fabricated California Car Cover. and the vehicle build book from BACKDRAFT Racing.

 

The clothing items shown in the photos below are NOT included with the car. and are simply representative of prior owner’s commitment to the BACKDRAFT Name and brand. This was the second vehicle build he had commissioned. and they took great care in making sure everything was done to perfection.

 

The car is titled in FLORIDA as a 1965 MODEL YEAR. and has no liens. It is ready for transfer to the next owner. and is eligible for export sale as well.
