I FOUND THIS LOVELY LITTLE ALPINE EARLIER THIS YEAR IT WAS LAST OWNED BY A SERIAL ALPINE ENTHUSIAST WHO WAS ONLY SELLING IT HE HAD TOO MANY !
ITS THE SORT OF CAR I LIKE A GENUINE UN-MOLESTED VERY LOW MILEAGE CAR THAT HAS CLEARLY BEEN ALWAYS CHERISHED AND WELL CARED FOR AND HAS ONLY HAD A FEW OWNERS IN ITS 54 YEARS.
IT LOOKS SMASHING IN WHITE WITH CONTRASTING BLACK INTERIOR.
IT IS A STANDARD 4 SPEED NON-OVERDRIVE CAR WITH A LOVELY 1725 ENGINE AND SMOOTH GEARBOX.
IT DRIVES AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS.
PRIOR TO THE LAST OWNER, THE COLLECTOR, IT'S PREVIOUS OWNER WAS A CITY BANKER WHO HAD PURCHASED IT FROM DIRECTLY FROM THE SECOND OWNER, THE WRITER DIDO GOLDSMITH OF THE FAMOUS GOLDSMITH FAMILY.
IT'S CLEAR THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN GARAGED DURING IT'S LIFE AND IT'S IN EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD CONDITION FOR T'S AGE AND WAY BETTER THAN SIMILAR EXAMPLES I HAVE SEEN. SUPER SOLID AND VERY CLEAN INCLUDING THE UNDERSIDE IT HAS LITTLE OR NO SIGNS OF RUST ISSUES.
I TOOK IT TO MY PAINTERS TO GET SOME MINOR CHIPS SORTED AND THE PAINT LIGHTLY FRESHENED UP AND FIT NEW WINDOW SEALS FOR THE DOORS WERE FITTED AS THESE WERE THE ONLY AREAS THAT LET THE CAR DOWN.
MY PAINTER HAS DONE A FANTASTIC JOB AND THE CAR REALLY SHINES NOW.
I AM OVER THE MOON WITH THE RESULTS ALTHOUGH THE SUPER SHINY NEW FINISH HAS HIGHLIGHTED THAT THE OLDER WORN HOOD COULD DO WITH REPLACING AS IT IS A LITTLE SHABBY, WHICH WAS FINE WHEN WE GOT THE CAR BUT NOW SOMEWHAT LETS THE SIDE DOWN A BIT. WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING INTO REPLACING IT TO FINISH THE TRANSFORMATION.
THE NICE THING ABOUT THESE LITTLE ALPINES IS THERE IS EASY PARTS AVAILABILITY FOR THEM AND THEY ARE ALSO REASONABLY PRICED.
MY AIM WAS TO JUST SMARTEN UP THE CAR FOR THE NEW OWNER TO ENJOY AND TO KEEP IT AS ORIGINAL AS POSSIBLE RATHER THAN OVER RESTORE THE CAR SO THE NEXT OWNER WILL WANT TO USE AND ENJOY THE CAR, OFTEN OVER RESTORED CARS BECOME TROPHIES OR TOO GOOD TO USE AND THAT FOR ME DEFEATS THE POINT IN OWNING THEM.
I'LL BE SAD TO SEE THIS ONE GO BUT I'M VERY HAPPY WITH HOW IT'S BEEN IMPROVED FOR THE NEXT OWNER TO ENJOY.
