Hi and thanks for taking the time to look at this auction for my 1977 Scimitar GTE SE6a Manual overdrive.

The V5C is in my name and it's got a fresh MOT for peace of mind even though it's exempt. This has been a lockdown project for me and something of a labour of love in that I know for sure, I won't get back the money I have spent on it let alone the significant amount of time and bruised knuckles. So, grab yourself a bargain.

This is a no reserve auction, I need the space for my next project, so the highest bidder wins. There is also no “Buy it Now” price, so there no need to ask.

The all important thing with these cars it that the chassis is absolutely solid. To keep it that way, I have painted it liberally with new engine oil which is a trick my father taught me. It doesn't conceal corrosion nor does it seal in moisture like underseals do and it self heals if hit by stones.

I bought the car from the estate of the previous owner who unfortunately passed away part way through renovating it. It doesn't seem to have been on the road for many years as there was no MOT history online. I think this accounts for the sound chassis. There are just over 20000 miles on the clock, but that seems very unlikely to me. With the lack of history, unfortunately there no way of verifying what it really should be.

The previous owner seemed to have started the renovation from the front and replaced the front brake pads, flexibles and solid brake lines, clutch slave and master cylinders plus the lines in between. He also fitted a full stainless steel exhaust plus the clutch itself and had the heads converted to unleaded. Unfortunately there is no paperwork to back this up, but most of it is obvious from looking at it. It also has a common modification to the cooling system employing SE5b plumbing to eliminate overheating.

The work I have done over the past year or so is mostly supported by paperwork, I have fitted the following parts, the vast majority being new.

·All 4 shocks and springs are Spax coilovers adjustable for damping and ride height. It's currently sitting about 1” lower than standard and is easy to adjust.

·4 new tyres.

·Battery.

·Rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders.

·Choke flap – manual choke.

·Fuel tank strap.

·Plugs, leads, caps, coil, and Acuspark electronic ignition – the original points come with it.

·Electric fuel pump – the original mechanical pump comes with it too.

·Choke cable.

·Big end and main bearing shells plus associated gaskets – all shells are standard sizes.

·Engine oil and filter.

·Oil pressure gauge line.

·Clock (Second hand).

·Stereo (Second hand).

·Both door mirrors – driver's one (Second hand) is remotely adjustable

·Both interior heater fans.

·Fuel cap seal.

·Wipers, arms and driver's side wheelbox.

·Steering rack gaiters.

·Track rod ends followed by laser alignment.

·Even the windscreen is brand new.

Other Good bits

·12 months MOT with no advisories.

·Historic status on the V5C, so Tax and MOT exempt

·K&N air filter

·Refurbished centre consol with a new leather armrest cover and ashtray stickers.

·4 keys.

·All grease points fitted with new nipples and greased.

·The lusty 3.0 litre Ford Essex V6 runs very well with excellent oil pressure and the gearbox and overdrive work as they should with no untoward noises.

Bad bits?

·The Greengage yellow paintwork is patchy and flaking in places, I managed to source some aerosol paint that matches well and a tin of that comes with the car.

·There is some of the usual cracking in the gel coat, but nothing extensive.

·There is no key for the tailgate, but lock sets are available.

·The interior needs some repairs to the seat fabric and the dashtop is lifting which is very common with these cars.

·The boot carpet is missing, I just have an old offcut in there.

·The front fog lights are also missing.

·The cooling fan has a manual switch under the bonnet. The one in the radiator needs replacing ideally.

·Hot starting can be problematic, I only noticed it after the MOT when it had been idling for ages on a hot day. The MOT guy said it can probably be fixed by using super unleaded fuel.

·There is a small bit of corrosion on a non structural bracket behind the driver's side rear wheel and a repair section for that is included with the car. This wasn't even an advisory on the MOT.

So, there you have it, an honest description of a practical classic car that won't rust. Fully roadworthy and just in need of a tidy up.

See my feedback for confidence, never a neutral or negative since 2003 and I have sold plenty of bikes and cars over that time. My feedback score is very precious to me, so I always give accurate descriptions.

There is no “Buy it Now price” and no reserve, I am going to let the auction run to the end to be fair on the hundreds of people I am expecting to bid

Hi, I'm interested in the car but confused with the advert, you mention it's an auction, but there's a sale price.
Which is it.
Regards
Geoff
