classic mini race car - road legal 1978 for sale
Current customer rating: (67 votes ) based onReluctant sale after close to a decade of ownership.
Has v5/logbook.
Currently a rolling chassis - I have a std 998 engine/gearbox/ancillaries which I'll include in the sale. The head is removed from the engine currently.
It has around 85-90% percent of all the parts required to get it back on the road or track.
Desirable early car with lots of patina - earned the hard way!
Ali subframe mounts Solid shell - fair amount of welding has been done - no rot to be seen.x2 roll cages (one full cage (ex mini 7), one half cage currently fitted)x1 cobra Imola S race seat properly mounted on box section Harness barPlexiglass front/rear windows Ali tank - baffled w. braided lines New fuel-pump Hi-lo'sLight weight batteryFibreglass boot Poly bushed lower arms&tie rodsVery clean underneath - freshly waxoiled x4 mamba wheels on Yoko a008s and x4 maglightsAdjustable rear camber plates (present but not currently fitted)Front subframe was removed repainted in gloss black (not used since)Electronic rev limiter, selection of instrumentation, clocks and steering wheels (inc. a sought after Moto-Lita wheel) etc.
Bad points:
I have removed most of the loom - I was planning on making a custom loom but never found the time. Also the front hub assemblies needs either rebuilding or replacing - a few of the bearings and one of the races are missing - they've been put on the car just to keep it mobile, I originally had 7.5 inch discs and hubs but had to sell those separately.
Currently the dash is out of the car - really it would benefit from having an ali dash made, I just haven't had the time.
Car has cover sills fitted but as replacement sills - i.e the old outer sills were fully cut out and cleaned up but instead of fitting standard 4" sills the body shop fitted 8" inch cover sills as direct replacements - they are not there to hide anything. I have photos to verify this, you could probably modify them in situ to look standard 4" sills but I never bothered as it never adversely affected anything and the welding was to a good standard - the car used to handle fantastically.
New loom is around £200
I've seen plenty of tidy hub and brake assemblies for around £150
Probably a few bits and pieces that are missing, nothing at all major though.
Realistically, for £500-£1000 (depending on your desired spec) and some tinkering you could have the car back on the road. It would make a great fast-road or hill-climb and sprint car...I only ever got to use it on a few test days.
I also have an Avonbar-Racing mini 7 spec engine with 0 hours since it was rebuilt - mated to a close ratio box and lsd. I may consider selling it with the car at an additional cost if there is enough interest.
