1984 Vauxhall cavalier MK2 1600 GL

8. 50 Genuine Miles From New!

Here we have up for auction my 1984 Cavalier 1. 6 GL 90 BHP with only 8. 50 genuine miles from new. In my opinion this car is PROBABLY the lowest mileage Cavalier from the period and is about as original as you can get. A full re spray on this car will turn it into a show stopping ultra-low mileage award winner!

Miles - 8. 50

MOT - 29th May 2014

Tax - 30th November 2013

2 Previous (same family) owners from new

History….

The car was originally purchased by a Mr Harold Whittaker from Belper. Derbyshire. In early September 1984 Mr Whittaker took the 9 mile route from his home to his local Vauxhall dealer ‘Boydens' (now currently Pentagon Vauxhall) in Derby to pick up his shiny new Cavalier GL finished in Antique Gold (paint code 66L) - B380 GVO.

Mr Whittaker used the car over the next 18 years for local runs only. within this time he had the car serviced twice and MOT'd annually every August ready for its yearly anniversary health check. In this period he only managed to clock up a total of 8. 75 miles.

The last expired MOT and tax disc I have for this car are both dated August 2002.

Sadly Mr Whittaker passed away shortly after this which is when his nephew Mr Neal Bridges (the last registered owner) took possession of his Uncles car in July 2004 – B380 GVO.

From the last recorded mileage (August 2002) to Mr Bridges taking ownership of the car and me becoming the latest owner it had covered a mere 396 miles (8. 71 total). Mr Bridges had stored the car in his garage under a tarpaulin for all these years. not ideal conditions but kept the worst of the weather at bay.

I took ownership of the car on a wet and windy December morning in 2012 where it was transported from its current location back to my house on a flatbed delivery truck (not wanting to put any pressure or strain on the cars mechanics which hadn't been used in the previous 10 years) with a mileage reading of 8. 71.

I began about getting the car re commissioned and ready for a fresh MOT. this included four brand new Pirelli P300 tyres. the original Michelin ones were like new but these had started to show signs of cracking due to age so were all swapped for safety reasons. A new battery. Bosch wipers all round. Oil change and filter. Air Filter. fresh fuel. lights & levels checked and a break inspection / clean-up was all carried out meaning that on the 30th May 2013 at 8. 75 miles the Cavalier. B380 GVO passed its first MOT test in just under 11 years with flying colours and NO advisory's what so ever!

Condition….

This car is now 29 years old. soon to celebrate its 30th birthday so is not brand new so please don't expect new - especially the exterior paint finish!

Underneath the car the chassis is very solid and has had NO welding carried out and NO major repairs to my knowledge – all HPI clear too. The worst area of this car is its external body work and panels which seems typical of GM Vauxhalls of the period. By this I mean that the entire bonnet area and roof is covered in tiny little micro blisters of rust / corrosion. At first glance you can't really notice these until you begin to look closer and then they become apparent with the roof being the worst affected area. The other area is the lower boot / tail lid just beneath the rear window. This has had water collect on it which in turn has then begun to rust causing bubbling - typical of Cavaliers from this period. The two rear arches are just beginning to react and if caught now. will not cause any future problems. The sills at some time have been painted with a black sealer which I believe was more preventative that reactive as they are original and solid sills underneath. The final area for concern are the two front wings which have pretty much gone at the front lower corners and will need replacing. I think that the majority of this surface rust / corrosion was caused when it was in storage under the tarpaulin with Mr Bridges as this wasn't a water tight environment. The two front splash guards / arch liners are currently removed at the moment so the potential buyer can see how good condition this area is. which can be seen in the photographs also highlighting that at some time in the past (or from the factory) parts of this car has been wax oil protected.

The good news is that over the last 6 months I have managed to source two BRAND NEW genuine GM front left and right wings for the next owner to fit and finish. Along with this I will also include a 2nd hand boot / tail lid which could be swapped for the current one – in my opinion the current boot lid could easily be repaired and professionally refinished to keep originality but the option is there for the next owner.

The four exterior wheels. to do it right would need sand blasting and re finishing to bring back to factory perfect but would certainly be worth the effort to finish the car off.

The interior is different altogether. open the doors and the smell takes you back to 1984… the interior is totally mint and in time warp condition with no rips or tears to the fabric. nbsp; the switches are like new and EVERY switch including the adjustable mirrors works perfectly – even the original radio remains and comes complete with factory instructions. The dash board is also perfect with no cracks or splits which usually happen due to extreme temperatures. The only negative to the interior is that the driver's door bin has been knocked. meaning that the top plastic bits have snapped off but could easily be glued back into place as they are all present. Lift the boot carpet and you will find the original Vauxhall / GM wheel and Michelin tyre NEVER used or driven on along with the original un used tool kit.

All plastic panels and fittings. interior and exterior etc. are all date stamped 83/84 proving the originality of this car and the fact that it hasn't been messed or tinkered with over the years. it also comes with the original Boydens rear window sticker. Boydens Tax disc holder and Boydens rear plate.

Mechanically the car is sound and fires first time on the turn of the key.

The car comes complete with 3 sets of keys which fit all locks to the car along with the original service book. instruction manual. MOTs listed. current V5 and original Vauxhall information from the time.

Summary….

I believe that if B380 GVO was given a full re spray. then it would become one the most desirable and lowest mileage Cavaliers out there. and potentially worth a premium close to £10. 00 which would only increase over the next few years.

I believe that the asking price is fair in comparison to what similar marques of the period have been going for at specialist auctions. private sales and on ebay. As mentioned above I am confident that this car will reach the value of double figures in the not so distance future.

How many 30 years old cars do you know that have covered less than 9. 00 miles??

I am also confident that there are no nasty surprises lurking for the next owner. purely body work issues as mentioned above and I am more than happy for full inspections or viewings by appointment etc…

The car is located in Doncaster. South Yorkshire. I can be contacted on my mobile 07788408397 or via direct email tim. severn@btinternet. com or via the ebay messaging service.

I have tried to be as honest and realistic as I can and hope that I have covered most areas. with the photographs also helping to form part of the description.

I will not take any kind of part exchange so please don't ask and I will not take payment through your great Uncles Nigerian bank account - cash on collection with a small Paypal deposit required!
