Custom Built 1938 Cadillac Series 7559 Imperial Limousine

Offering a very unique and historically significant 1938 Cadillac Imperial Limousine.   It was custom built by Cadillac at the factory especially for William A. Fisher (President of Fisher Body) and delivered new to him at the 'GM Garage'.

William Fisher and his six (6) brothers held important executive positions within Fisher Body. Cadillac and General Motors during the 1920s. 1930s and 1940s. The Fisher family was vital to the early history of GM; often compared to being as important to the early automotive industry as the Ford family.

During the 1920s and 1930s there were many coach builders customizing cars for those who could afford such luxury - names like Derham. Saoutchik. Pininfarina. Brunn. Hartmann. Bohman & Schwartz. Oldings. Vanden Plas.   Superior. Miller Meteor. M&M. Flxble. Eureka.  This car though. was custom built right at the Fleetwood Plant for Mr. Fisher.

It is one-of-a-kind due to the unique front end treatment.   Originally finished in Patillo Maroon it features a custom fabricated stainless steel grille which wraps around and into the hood side panels.   The appearance is similar to Bill Mitchell's spectacular 60 Special which was a new model for 1938.    The time frame was during the reign of Harley Earl as head of GM Styling and Design.

Roy Schneider's book 'Sixteen Cylinder Motorcars' features a V16 'Styling Study'. which looks very similar to this William Fisher car.   In comparison. the standard 1938 Series 75 featured a much different. narrower but 'heavier' in appearance chromed diecast grille.

To step into this car brings to life the pre-war days of the late 1930s when the country was dragging itself out of the Great Depression.   Other high profile 1938 Cadillac owners included Shirley Temple. General George S. Patton. W. C. Fields and there were even 1938 Cadillac Limos at the White House for President Franklin D. Roosevelt.   At the time. Cadillac Motor Car Company was known as 'the Standard of the World' . renowned for its style. elegance and overall driving experience.

This car was authenticated through GM Historical Services with the original Factory Invoice indicating delivery to the GM Building.   Also included are significant provenance original documents (dating to December. 1937 and January. 1938) a letter from D. E. Ahrens. Cadillac General Sales Manager addressed to Mr. Fisher. Fisher Body Corporation. General Motors Building in Detroit. thanking him for his purchase and original warranty.

The 346 cubic inch Flathead engine was previously rebuilt but car does not currently run. The interior is still original. showing wear. The car needs restoration but is basically complete.    Chassis & frame is the same as a Series 90 V-16 with heavier duty suspension and frame.

Recently there has been much publicity about the 1941 Cadillac 'Duchess' built for Britain's Duke & Duchess of Windsor.   Beautifully restored; it is due to sell at RM Auction in mid November and will likely reach a lofty price.   Some pre-auction estimate range from $500. 00 to $800. 00!   Here is another opportunity for someone to bring a beautiful and unique car back to life.
