1947 Mercury Coupe (Mercury Eight)

Up for your consideration is my '47 Mercury Eight Coupe . I consider her a true California survivor.  I think you'd be pressed to find another unrestored '47 as solid as this one.  Up until last year it spent the previous 30+ years in sunny Palmdale. California.  Dry desert in case you haven't been there. the perfect place to preserve an old car.  Before that it was in the Los Angeles area.  The car has a great history . owned almost since new by the same person.  He was a career LAPD Officer who after retirement went on to work with the Coast Guard.  He passed away about a year and a half ago and I purchased the car from his son.  The son told me how proud his dad was of the car and how well he took care of it and maintained it.  With how original and solid the car is I saw that it wouldn't take much to get the old girl back on the road .  however. plans have changed and I'm in the middle of a house "make over" and addition that will take space. money. and time.  Hence. the sale of several toys.
Overall the car is very solid and ready with a little TLC to get back on the road.  Somewhere along the line before it was parked 30+ years ago it had one repaint that is now chipping and peeling in a few spots . primarily on the roof and the hood.  All the trim is there and in good shape with the exception of the drivers side front fender that has a dent.  The son mentioned his dad did this when backing the car into the spot where it was to be stored.   The upholstery and headliner is brittle from having sat in such a dry climate and will need to be redone or covered.  All glass is good except for the passenger side door glass has a hairline crack and there's a small "bb" sized hole in the rear passenger side window.  The running boards/rockers are surprisingly solid and free from any rust rot.  That seems to be the first area to go on the old Merc and Ford Coupes.
The engine and engine compartment are solid and pretty clean as well.  I was told the engine ran a couple years ago off an external gas can and that it moves through all gears as it should.  The tank probably needs to be removed and cleaned.  The wide white tires are in great shape and the hub caps are period correct original hubcaps (driver quality). Rear fender skirts are also included in the sale.  There are a couple of minor rust spots in the trunk pan (see picture) that in my opinion would be an easy fix not requiring pan replacement.  Anyway. you get the picture.  I'm selling it as a non-running project car that with a little work would make someone a great classic.  I don't know the condition of the brakes but would assume they need attention.   A new paint job. repair one dent. seat covers. and a good thorough tune-up with fresh fluids and you should be rolling again.   I have the old school California Certificate of Title in hand (Pink Slip).
Housekeeping:

I'm willing to end the auction early if a fair price is agreed on.  NO LOWBALLERS !!  I'm motivated to sell the car. but not desperate.  The reserve is set very fair for what the car is.  I'm willing to talk with serious buyers on the phone . simply email me your phone number and I'll give you a call.  The winning bidder is required to pay the $500 non-refundable deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of the end of the auction.  Again. please ask any questions before bidding.  If there is an area of the car that you would like to see that is not included in the listing pictures please email me with what you would like to see and I'll get those to you asap.
Good luck !!
