Verified real '64 GTO. with factory tri-power and close ratio 4 speed trans.   Engine recently rebuilt with Comp cam and full roller valve train.   Crane electronic points replacement and high voltage coil.   Ram Air exhaust manifolds and new Flowmaster mufflers.   New front brakes. master cylinder replaced.   Original rear end was 3. 90. now 12 bolt 3. 23 posi.   Odometer shows under 12. 00. assume it's actually 112. 00.   Starts immediately. has no over-heating issues and since engine rebuild has proved to be reliable.

I've owned this car since Jan. 2011 and have put about 6000 miles on it.   I live in a desert and a black exterior/red interior is with no A/C is somewhat uncomfortable.   The car runs strong and is a kick to drive.   However. it's quite loud. and with the heat not fun to take on road trips in the summer.   It's always been covered. in a garage and never driven in wet weather.

I've wanted one of these since they came out when I was in high school.   Now. it's time for something a little more civilized.

You have good eyes and ask good questions. The block is stamped 78X. It is not the original block. but it is a period correct GTO block. As I'm sure you're aware. Pontiac stamped the blocks according to carburation and transmission. In '64 there was no difference other than the stamp which I've always found odd. The trim tag does say 2227 - have no idea why there is a discrepancy. You're right that both the power steering and the 4 spoke sport steering wheel have been added. The 4 spoke wheel was one year only. and I believe has never been reproduced. That means a good original can be quite expensive. up to $2000.
