1978 Dodge Lil Red Express

Design and concept of the Lil Red Express has been credited to the legendary power-train engineer Tom Hoover. along with Dick Maxwell and Dave Koffel. who combined their efforts to produce this extremely limited edition truck. of which approximately 650 quality examples are believed to have survived from the original 1978 production run of 2. 88.

When Dodge released the Lil Red Express Truck in 1978. it was one of the most unique Dodge trucks that had ever been produced. The Lil Red Express was not only great looking. but these trucks were also great performers. In 1978 The Dodge Lil' Red Express was the fastest American made vehicle from 0 to 100 MPH as tested by Car and Driver magazine.

Because of a loophole in the emissions regulations the 1978 Dodge Lil Red Express Truck's did not have catalytic converters. What the Lil Red Express did have was a special High Performance 360 C. I. 4-barrel small block engine code (EH1). which was a modified version of the 360 police engine (E58) producing 225 net horsepower @ 3800 RPM. The package also included Hemi style mufflers with a crossover pipe breathing through 2 chrome stacks located behind the cab. a special 727 transmission and 3. 55:1 rear gearing.

This is a real nice very lightly used 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express that received a full frame off restoration a few years ago and has only put 130 miles on the odometer since then.

 The 360 Police Interceptor date correct motor and trans were completely rebuilt at restoration.

 The ignition was replaced with Davis Unified Ignition and a new 750 Holley double pumper carb was installed on top of a Weiand 8007 hi rise intake.

 Long tube headers attached to brand new exhaust system with 1 chamber mufflers and brand new tires.

 weather strip. door seals and windows seals are new.

 This truck was painted inside out everything painted inside outside bottom of cab inside and outside of all fenders inside and outside of inner wheelhousings frame all lower inner cross members have spare tire holder and all hardware to go with it also all sandblasted and painted red a very thorough well prepped paint on a solid Texas truck all original solid as new floors and core support. Also new rancho shocks and all body bushings are urethane.

 This truck sounds awesome it is loud and has a great time the mufflers are basically just for being legal they are near hollow!

 I bought about 2000. 00 dollars on grille's before I found a good one and bought at least half a dozen dash bezels before finding a nice unfaded one the factory tach is there but the needle sticks needs repairs. There is slight rust on the chrome rear bumper around the mount bolts and in the crevices of the original chrome wheels from sitting.
