For sale Bedford CA Dormobile
Few commercial vehicles can claim to have shaped social history like the Bedford CA. following its 1952 launch. it kick-started the post-WW2 camper van revolution. What is more extraordinary is this is a factory dormobile!
I purchased this van from the second owner approx. 3 years ago who had it for 50 years. it was his daily driver on full Victorian registration with rego paid up until 11/2014.
My intention was to restore it. as the rarity of this Dormobile in Australia is enormous as well as the UK. such a cool. rare home away from home.
Supplied and sold via Popes of Finchley in Ballards Lane London with original badge on rear doors.
Firstly the van is 100% complete plus a tonne of spares including all new rubbers for whole car. new door channels (where doors close into channel). so many bits and bobs its too hard to list but is easily over $5. 00 worth alone. all the little hard to get items etc.
Body
Body needs restoration. it is overall reasonably straight with a few dints as expected. Areas of rust are. sills. door channels (have new ones). bit in the roof. a bit in the passenger side dashboard compartment. Best to come and have a look.
There is no structural rust at all I can find.
All body rubbers have perished but I have a complete new set for the van. as mentioned.
Interior
Interior needs restoration. primarily the upholstery ie. front and rear seats. dicky seat. Cabinetry needs updating. gas stove. sink etc all works and in good conditionCanvas top is good but not perfect with a small rip which could easily be repaired. fibreglass has a crack that can be repaired and painted. The upper beds are new canvas.
Mechanically
Engine has done about 10. 00klm only on a rebuild. starts easily and sounds very sweet and tight. gearbox functions accordingly. no strange noises in diff etc. Brakes need bleeding and most probably new/refurbished wheel cylinders. they were working fine but just sitting around to long. Overall mechanically it is reasonable sound bar the brakes.
You are welcome to come and have a look. in fact I encourage it. I have had a couple of Kombi's in my time but this thing is so much rarer. so much quirkier and unique and in my opinion. rising in value dramatically.
Bonhams sold a similar van back in 2013 for AU$15. 19 requiring refurbishment. not to mention the classic car market has exploded since then.

I have priced this more then reasonable. with more then $5. 00 in parts alone. I know a lot of people always say easy restoration etc but I believe this really is. there is a lot of glass and with the pop top it doesn't leave a great deal of painted area requiring restoration.
Viewing Malvern. sold as is. where is. no rego.
PS. Due to many many requests I will take photos of the spares in the next day and put up.
