I have for sale a 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente Convertible. it has a clear California Title. it is currently registered it runs and drives and I drive it when ever I can. It has a small bock and a 5 speed. I bought it earlier this year. took it apart replaced the engine. trans suspension. brakes some wiring etc. it runs great. stops great

Engine:

289 Ford. I got the engine from a friend and he can't find the specs. it runs strong and runs cool.  I put a 160 thermostat in it and it runs great without problems.

HAS:

600 Edelbrock Carb

Edelbrock Performer dual plane Aluminum intake

Moroso carb spacer.

Edelbrock air cleaner

Igniter II ignition kit.

Igniter II coil

M/T Aluminum valve covers

Doug Throly tri-Y headers coated

New water pump-stock

New oil pump-Midlon Stock volume

New starter

New aluminum radiator. Generic brand but works great.

All new hoses. heater core

Transmission:

T-5 5 speed. It has been rebuilt about 2000 miles ago this is an estimate as the speedometer is not hooked up. It is from a 1988 ford mustang 5. 0 and is has the non-syncroed reverse gear.

The transmission was built by a shop in Sonoma and the tail shaft conversion was done there as well. It has the S10 tail shaft on that way it can be installed in the Comet without cutting the cross member.

The car has the Modern driveline cross member and the Clutch cable conversion kit on it.

Clutch pedal shaft has the roller bearings installed for smooth operation.

Clutch is a Zoom Kevlar clutch. it is heavy duty and you can feel it in the pedal it it heavy. It has less than 2000 miles on it.

Ford Racing billet steel Flywheel

Shiftier and assembly is a Hurst.

Rear End:

The rear end is a stock ford 8-inch it has 3. 73 gears non-posi. Rear brakes have been reubilt.

Exhaust:

Has dual flow-masters with turn downs. 2 1/4 inch pipe.

Body:

The car was originally white.

It is now green and is old it has faded in places and has some touch up marks in silver and some green (not me). it will need a paint job eventually. It works for me as it was a driver and made it so i wasnt afraid to have it scratched nicked etc.

The body is straight and in overall good shape.

I have found some filler in a few spots. First in the passenger side rocker near the wheel well. and in covering one side of there the bars go on one side  near the trunk.

It has a few dings in it but no major damage.

Trunk is is great shape with no known rot on the trunk floor on in the weatherstripping channel.

The doors open and close well.

The door and trunk locks work. the passenger lock is a little tough to operate.

Rust:

There is a little rust in the drivers side rear quarter that i took the trim off to show.

The rear drivers side passenger floor will need some work as shown in the pictures. the other floor pans are in good shape with a few small holes pin holes and under 1/4 inch in the passenger rear floor and under the seat area. There is some surface rust on the floors as shown.   For what is is the pans are in good shape and it why I purchased it as this was the cleanest convertible i could find.

Electrical:

Gauges. the speedometer does not work as it is not hooked up.

The fuel gauge works. the amp gauge works. the temperature gauge is disconnected and the oil pressure gauge is dis connected. The oil pressure gauge did work. I have installed an Autometer phantom electric temperature gauge and have a Summit brand Voltmeter and oil pressure gauges. All three are 2 5/8inch in size.

The headlights. tail lights and turn signals work. The car does not have hazard lights or back up lights.

The horn does not work. The courtesy lights do not work

Trunk light does work.

New column wiring

New Front main electrical harness

New Voltage Regulator

New headlight switch and some other misc. parts.

New battery cables

Has an Optima red-top Battery

Interior:

The interior was originally red. it is now black.

The black carpet is new it is from ACC

The rest interior will need some attention; it is showing its age. It has been pained/dyed black. Some red still shows.

The front seat is bench. it will need upholstery. and the back seat will need new upholstery as well.

The door panels will need to be replaced

The instrument bezel has some cracks and will need some attention. the radio does turn on. The speaker is not there.

The rest of dash chrome is there but need to be polished. there are pits in the chrome.

I have a dash pad for it. though it is not installed. it has a couple of cracks and is green.

The steering wheel is a GT if I remember. an original one is include.  Original wheel not in that great shape

Glass:

The front windshield is cracked on the passenger side and will need to be replaced.

The side glass is in good shape with minor scratches. it is in good shape for its age

the back plastic on the top is faded and will need to be replaced along with the top.

Chrome/trim pieces:

The chrome on the car is almost complete.

The car is missing the chrome pieces on the top of the body next to the trunk.

The windshield chrome both inside and outside is there and needs to be cleaned. there are pits in the chrome.

Lower trim chrome. I have it all and it will need to be cleaned. There are some scratches. minor dents in them.

The front bumper is in good shape it has minor scratches and a little rust on the bottom.

Rear bumper. has some minor scratches. and is a little bent on the driver's side. I do not see any damage to the car itself.

Taillights. they have been painted with silver paint. and have a lot of pitting.

Overall the trim around the car is showing its age there is some scratches. minor dings. and pits.

Brakes:

The brakes have been fully rebuilt. The whole brake system has less than 500 miles on it.

The front brakes are disc and are a “Granada swap” the spindles are from a Granada. the rotors are 11” and are cross drilled. The Calipers are stock Granada and have been rebuilt. Pads are new. Hardware is new.

Rear. are drums. all rebuilt or new including the hardware The drums are new the wheel cylinders are new and the shoes are new

The master cylinder is new and has dual compartments.  The proportioning valve is Willowood and is adjustable.

Hard lines the new. The main lines are Stainless Steel (Front to Back Rear axles and Front lines. ) The connecting lines to the soft lines are steel as are the lines from the master to the proportioning valve.

The “Soft” lines are braided stainless steel. both front and back.

The master cylinder push rod is an adjustable one to compensate for the clutch cable bracket.

All of the parking (e brake) brake cables have been replaced.

Overall the brakes work great and stop the car quickly.

The e brake will need a little tuning.

Suspension:

It is a manual steering car.

The suspension has been rebuilt and has about 2000 miles on them.

The A-arms both upper and lower have been replaced (poly urethane bushings)

Inner and outer tie rods. (poly urethane bushings)

The center link is new and it is manual steering.

The strut rod ends are new. (poly urethane bushings)

Front sway bar is 1” (poly urethane bushings)

The spring perches are new.

The shocks are grab a track brand

The front springs are new and I cut a coil off them to get the car to sit level.

The rear springs are 4 leaf mid eye. they have less than 2000 miles on them but they have some surface rust on them. (paint from factory didn't stick I guess. )

Rear shackles are new and have polyurethane. They are performance shackles.

The suspension components are the Mustangs plus brand.

Rims and tires:

Rims are 17 inch KMC hot wheels 68

They are 8 inches wide.

They have 215-40-17 Falken Azenis tires on them with about 2000 miles on them

TOP:

The top will need to be replaced. as it is aging and has a few small holes and is separating on a few spots on the side and back window is falling down. Again it needs a new top.

The convertible top frame and header are in great shape with some minor surface rust here and there. The header is solid along with the rest of the rack

The electric top does not work. as of now I use it manually. the top motor has power. and so does the switch.

Other:

the gas tank has been cleaned out

the sending unit has been replaces as well as the gasket.
