1978 MG Midget

For sale is a 1978 MG Midget in good condition. Mark IV convertible 2-Door Roadster. 1500 CC inline four engine. 92K miles Runs and drives great. starts everytime! Original paint. all lights/electronics/gauges work. Sharp looking and fun to drive. I ride it to work round trip as long as it isn't freezing. and it has never let me down. It has an upgraded Weber carb. which make it much easier to tune than the notorious stock Stromberg carb. Does not have a catalytic converter (this is a good thing) and does not need to pass emissions. The original seats have a tear in the headrest and the drivers side seat by the shoulder. but I use seat covers and you can't even see or notice it. The convertible top has a tear in the left rear. but I repaired it and it doesn't leak. The the top could probably be replaced soon. but they only cost around $300 for a brand new one. The only reason I never replaced it is because I always ride with the top down. The radio works but it is missing a knob and doesn't have the best sound (typical for a convertible). That is honestly about the only bad things I can say about it. it is really an awesome car. Here is a breakdown of the good and the bad: The Good: -Runs great. starts everytime. never broken down on me. -Very simple car. not a lot of bells and whistles so its really easy to work on -Paint is in great shape and all original -Has an upgraded 'Weber' carburetor. which is much more reliable than the original 'Zenith Stromberg' carbs -Has a newer dual exhaust system. and does not have a catalytic converter. This improves performance and makes it sound really nice. You don't need to worry about emissions test in BernCo because it is prior to '82 model year. -99% of the gauges. lights. switches. etc. work (one of the reverse lights needs a new bulb I noticed the other day) -There are 2 websites (Moss Motor and Victoria British) that have virtually every replacement part for this car for surprisingly reasonable prices -Really just a fun car to drive. doesn't really need anything I can think of. The bad: -The passenger seat has a small tear near the shoulder. and the passenger headrest also has a tear on the back of it. I use waterproof seat covers anyway so its not a big deal. but if you wanted to fully restore it you'd probably want to consider getting it re upholstered. -The dash has a small (~2") crack in the middle. Its not even noticeable from the drivers seat -The radio is missing a knob. It still is fully functional. but the sound of the radio isn't all that great. I've always wanted to replace it and the speakers with a new setup. but never did. -Leaks oil. Not terrible. but I keep a piece of cardboard under it to save my garage floor. and top it off every few months. I'm told you can drive yourself crazy trying to seal leaks on a British car! I have found that the lucas oil stabilizer helps tremendously. -Tires have good tread. but aren't new and show some cracks on the sidewall. - The convertible top had a tear in the back left window. I sealed it with a clear patch. but it doesn't look great. A new top is only around $300. but I always drive it with the top down so I never felt the need to replace it. -It isn't a fast car. so the top speed is only around 70 mph. Even at that speed it is a little scary. I wouldn't plan on taking any long road trips with it. I've taken it to Santa Fe and thats about as far as I'd want to go
