Mercedes-Benz 600 Series 6-Door Pullman for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2) based on 516 votes

This is an extremely rare Mercedes Benz 600 6-door Pullman 1970. In 1964 Mercedes designed an automobile that was second to none. It was the Mercedes 600 Pullman. There were a few different versions made over the 18 year run. This 6 door was one of 118 made during the entire production period. In 1972 Mercedes stopped importing 600's to America. At that time 28 six doors were delivered to the USA.

This car has a history that is quite interesting.

The car was in the Berkley Area of California during the early 70's the first owner was Janco Corporation. (Jancocorp. com) they used it to shuttle clients around the area. Later in the 70s. prior to 1976. it was sold to a private high end limo service. I have the attached rate card from Ishi's Limousine service. The dollar went a lot further in the 70's.

If you look in detail you could rent the car for a 5 hour minimum for $125. 00 you could also take a one way trip to Las Vegas for $1. 00 this was in a Cadillac. The 600 Pullman was extra.

I have attached a picture of Elvis in a Mercedes 600 6 door. I was told the picture was taken in Nov. 1970. This 6-door was in the California area at the time. I did a little research and there were 28 6-door Pullmans shipped to the United States prior to 1972. Of the 28. 5 were 904 blue. Of these 5 cars only two had rear sunroofs. Of the two sunroof cars one had a blue feintenvelour rear compartment. Simple math says this was the car. I know a bunch of 600 fans that may disagree. You can't really tell from the picture the interior rear color. The only thing for sure is that it is Elvis in a 6-door Pullman. There really is no way to prove anything. Although this is speculation I keep pictures in the back seat. great for conversation.

The car remained San Francisco. In the Later 70's it was bought by an individual who had a home in LA and Chicago and Connecticut. He kept the car in the LA area until 1984.

Over the years the car was shipped to New Jersey and registered in 1984. And finally it landed in Connecticut. The new owner had one of the finest collections in existence. He actually had 2 Pullmans and 4 Mercedes 600's these cars were his pride and joy. He kept the car in his private collection all through the 80s and 90s and early 2. 00's

In December of 2006 I went to Connecticut on a whim and bought this car. I also bought 19 others but it is to long of a story to describe here.

Over the past 5 years I sent the car to Portland Oregon to get the car refreshed. Two summers ago I went to Portland to pick up the car and take the family on a trip. We drove it through the Columbia River gorge and really put it through the tests. It climbed hills and cornered in turns like a sports car.

If you want to see a video of it click here. The last picture of the car shows a water hose breaking. The car went back to the Mechanic.

This is my dilemma. Right now I drive a 600 everyday. I have another Pullman I am ready to work on so who really needs two Pullmans?

I have some detailed pictures of the car. Take a look. Remember this is a 40 year old car. It's not perfect in fact I guarantee it's not perfect. If someone wants to make it perfect please buy it and send me Pictures when it's done. Better yet take me on a long ride.

The car has 65. 00 Miles. and has gone through a ton of cosmetic and mechanical restoration.  This car does not appear to have suffered any rust in its lifetime with the exception of one of the panels. You can see that in the picture. There isn't any rust evident at this point.

Chassis 100. 016-12-001592 was built in late 1970 and left the factory with 904 Blue and a Blue Feintenvelour passenger area. It also has a blue leather driver's area.

This is an EXTREMELY rare example of the 600 Pullman 6 door.

The car also has a sunroof. which is a must have for one of these cars. It's huge. The car feels like a convertible. When it's open. It also has a rebuilt air conditioning system second to none.

Mechanicals: I had the car completely looked over and everything possible resealed during the restoration work I had done.  The car drives wonderfully has no mechanical issues.  It drives smoothly and handles great on the freeway. The tires have 300 miles on them.

Paint: The paint on this car is  nice. but it 40 years old so there are a few small chips and one scratch on the trunk lid.  This is standard .  It still has shine and luster to it.  The pictures do justice to this paint job.  It is a nice and the color is amazing on the classic body style of the 600 Pullman. While this is an NICE paint. it is not flawless. Remember it is over 40 years old. The hood and front two quarter panels could use a respray if desired.

The car is straight but does have a few dings and dimples.

Suspension: The car has new air bellows all around. The valves that needed servicing were replaced. New tires were installed. The car drives smoothly and there are no odd rattles.

Brakes: A 600 is a car a Pullman is a tank. The most important function is to stop. The brakes have had all calipers rebuilt. Everything was repaired or replaced. The Pullman can stop on a dime.

Hydraulics:

There are no leaks in the car. All of the hydraulics are operational. Some of the pot handle controllers could be replaced as most 600's should.

Air Suspension System: The valves that needed replacing received freshly rebuilt set of air valves installed.  During my ownership. I have let the car sit for a period of 3 months at one point. and it never dropped an inch. This air suspension system is incredible. It is working perfectly as it was designed to. In the past week I found out the front center valve is acting up and should be rebuilt.

Wood Work: All of the wood is Walnut. You can see the incredible condition of the cabinetry in the back seat. It is all there and in great condition. Impressive is an understatement.

Leather: The leather in good shape structurally. Its 40 years old and has a few cracks.  The headliner looks great. You can see these in the pictures. The velour is rare. It's not perfect but it is original. It looks better then it should for a 40 year old car.

TITLE: This is a clear Illinois title.

I can assist with organizing transport for the vehicle and can recommend numerous shipping companies.

This car is sold as is without a warranty.

I had the good fortune to see this car in Marin County, CA in about 1977, driven by Ishi. He was transporting a well known rock star to Lagunitas to visit a friend, and while they were visiting, Ishi parked the car near where I was folding newspapers to deliver. I had to see it, and he was so gracious to show me, a young car nut, this very special automobile. A memory I will never forget.
