Due to an unexpected loss of storage space. I am offering up for auction at a "very low" reserve my 1969 Alfa Romeo 105. 21 Duetto 1300 Junior Spider.

I received this email from Alfa Romeo Archives:

with reference to your request we are informing you as follows.

According to our documentation files. the chassis number AR 1672084

originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Spider 1300 Junior (105. 91). manufactured on the 15th February 1969 and sold on the 17th April 1969 to Alfa Romeo Canada.

The body colour is ivory. with black skai interiors.

Considered to be one of the best looking Alfa's. the Duetto's/Roundtails's are becoming some of the most desirable production Alfa's available today.   They are appreciating nicely and premium examples  are commanding very high prices and becoming excellent investments while the market continues to appreciate.   With that said. this driver quality Duetto Spider represents a wonderful opportunity for the Alfisti  that always wanted a Roundtail Spider. but could not afford their appreciating values.

Vin # AR 1672084.

Mileage - Odometer shows 49. 80 - exact mileage is unknown

Original 1300 engine has been replaced with a 2 liter engine with dual webers.

5 Speed Transmission.

Manufactured in February 1969.

Clear Michigan Title.

The Alfa has been garage stored for many years and has been a reliable weekend driver.    The vin # designates this as a 105. 21 series 1300 Junior Spider.   Very rare here in the US since they were not imported.   "Low Reserve Auction".   I will be adding additional pictures within the next day or so.

As noted by Alfa Romeo archives. this Alfa was originally a Canadian delivery example.   The Junior Model features recessed headlights. fixed vent windows and the original factory "2 Spoke" Steering Wheel. The original color was Ivory. and did undergo a color change when the Alfa was restored over 20 years ago.   The original 1300 was considered by many to be a bit underpowered. and like many. this Junior was upgraded to a 2 liter with dual Weber carbs.   I have a correct 1300 that is available. but is not included in the auction.

As stated. the Alfa was restored many years ago and is showing it's age.   I would consider it a "driver" quality example with the normal wear and blemishes from a weekend driver.   The body is solid and the paint shows nicely. however the pictures do not show many of the imperfections the Alfa has.   There are many spots where the paint had been touched up and the paint does not really match up.   The left rear quarter panel shows old repairs to the wheel arch and lower panel behind the tire as shown in the pictures.   Floors have rust under both seats as well as under the carpet in the jump seat.   Nose panel still retains the correct dimple. but does show evidence of previous body work.   Grill and front bumpers are in good condition.   Solid rocker panels.   All glass in good condition.   Trunk lid in good condition and does not have the typical rusty lip.

The interior is in good condition as shown in the pictures.   The interior was redone when the Alfa was restored. and does have some aspects that are not original including the carpet and I believe the door panels.   There is an issue with the wiper switch and a toggle switch was added to operate the wipers.   The ignition switch is a little finicky when starting and sometimes needs to be turned a bit further to work.   I have included a replacement switch for the new owner.   The dash cap is due for replacement due to being warped from the heat.   The convertible top and top mechanism are both in good condition with no issues.

Mechanically the Spider is in good condition and is turn key.   Starts up easily and the 2 liter engine has plenty of power.   Upgraded to MarelliPlex ignition which makes starting easier. The engine sounds good and does not display any strange noises.   No noticeable leaks from oil or coolant.   Rear bumper is not black from oil burning.   The transmission does have the typical 2nd gear syncro issues. but for an experienced driver it is not an issue.   Within the last year or so. the steering box was replaced. U Joints/Center support bearing replaced & clutch master cylinder.   Part of the exhaust was replaced as well.   Brakes work fine - booster has been bypassed.   Good tires with Alfa factory Alloys.   Recent "Interstate Battery".   I used it for my weekend driver this summer and it's quite fast and always a blast to drive.

Known issues:  Has rust in floor pans/underneath.   Left rear quarter panel has rust and wheel arch has old repair/damage.   Jump seat area has rust.   Ignition switch finicky.   Brake booster disconnected.   Emergency brake not working.   Misc scratches/touch ups/rust bubbles.

As stated. the Duetto Spider represents a wonderful opportunity for the Alfa enthusiast that always admired the beauty of the "Roundtail" Spider. but could not afford their appreciating values.   It's a very rare European example and always gets compliments whenever I drive it.    As stated. these cars are appreciating nicely and would make a very sound investment for the Alfisti that always wanted a Roundtail Spider.   Drive it as is or do a full restoration - your choice.   Comes with a clear Michigan title.   Sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied.   I have done my best to describe the Alfa to the best of my ability. however there may be some things that I may have missed.   It is up to the buyer to do due diligence when making a purchase online.   Do not make any assumptions about anything.   Ask any questions that may not have been addressed.   I am not responsible for any errors or erroneous misinformation.   Keep in mind that this Alfa is 44 years old. and is far from perfect.   I have priced it accordingly.

I will be adding more pictures within the next few days.

For the motivated buyer. I will consider ending the auction early for a serious offer.

The fine print:  If you have 5 or less feedback transactions. you must contact me prior to bidding.   A non-refundable deposit of $1000. 00 is due within 24 hours of the auction end.   If the deposit is not received. the Alfa will be offered to the next highest bidder.   The balance is due within 7 days of the auction end date.   The car must be picked up within 10 days of the auction end date.   A $10. 00 per day storage fee will be charged after the 10 days unless prior arrangements have been made.   I have sold several vintage cars to overseas buyers with the buyers being extremely pleased with the sale.     If you have any questions. do not hesitate to contact me.   I will do my best to answer any questions you may have.
