1968 Pontiac Firebird

BACKGROUND:

Up for sale is my 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 recreation.   I've had the car since 1990. and it has undergone a frame-off restoration – everything either new or restored original.   The car was originally Flambeau Burgundy w/ black top. 350 2-barrel. automatic. with air.   It is about 95% complete. it needs some finishing touches/adjustments.   I have made every attempt to use correct parts. including fasteners.   The car is as close to “1968” as I could get it. and the only real deviation are some engine upgrades.   It drives and rides excellent. but needs some finishing/detailing.   Some highlights are as follows:

ENGINE:

69 400 block (rebuilt) less than 500 miles

68 #16 cylinder heads (rebuilt)

68 factory intake manifold

69 Quadrajet

RA-IV cam w/ new timing set

Hooker headers (will include original manifolds)

Factory distributor with Mallory Unilite conversion

MSD coil

All correct vacuum lines including vacuum advance valve

Correct pulleys and brackets

Factory air cleaner

TRANSMISSION:

68 M-20 Wide Ratio 4-speed

New clutch and resurfaced pressure plate

Factory Hurst shifter w/ linkage

REAR:

3:36:1 Safe-t-track rear (rebuilt. GM gears)

EXTERIOR:

April Gold base/clear (7-8 out of 10)

New quarters and tail panel

Factory 400 hood and scoops

New black vinyl top

Underside and firewall stripped and repainted chassis black.

Rallye II Wheels w/ new PMD Centers

New Cooper Cobra tires 225x70xR14

New front bumper

New 400 grilles w/ new headlights

New rear bumper

Added Hood Tach (painted. I have yet to install)

Factory remote mirror

New rocker molding (I have yet to install)

New drip edge molding (I have yet to install)

INTERIOR:

Black standard interior

Added Factory AM/FM radio

Added Factory Rallye Gauges

Factory tilt steering column

Added Factory wood wheel

New door weather-stripping

New foiled sound deadening

New package tray

Original door panels

MECHANICAL:

Factory power steering

Factory power brakes (drum)

New urethane body bushings

New front/rear suspension (springs. shocks. bushings)

New gas tank. sending unit. and fuel lines

New master brake cylinder and brake lines

New brake shoes/hardware all around

New Interstate battery

WHAT WORKS:

Head Lights. horn. wipers (both speeds). taillights. radio. hazards. fuel gauge. oil pressure gauge. emergency/parking brake

WHAT DOESN'T WORK:

Temp gauge (intermittent). AMP gauge. Windshield Washer pump (intermittent). Front left signal (intermittent).

WHAT THE CAR NEEDS:

As mentioned. the car is about 95% complete.   What it needs to be finished:

Color sanding/buffing/polishing

Front seat covers

Headliner and sail panels

Drivers door adjustment/alignment

Paint touch-up (some nicks/dings)

Shifter chrome lever is pitted

SUMMARY:

Overall this is a nice driver that has served me well for many years.   The car is a blast to drive and will serve its new owner well.   It's not perfect. but it is definitely as correct as I could make it.   All it needs is some finishing/attention.   Car is located in Cleveland OH and is for sale locally. so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.   I want the car to go to a good home.   Thanks for looking.   If you have any questions. please email me at nhra68@gmail. com.
