1931 HUDSON GREATER 8 DELUXE BROUGHAM

HISTORY

                         The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable. well engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. By the late 1920's Hudson was producing powerful six cylinder cars. In 1930 Hudson switched over to eight cylinder power. The 1930 Hudson Greater Eight displaced 213. 8 cubic inches and only 80 horsepower. It was of course lacking the power to which Hudson owners had become accustomed.   In spite of this fact. a 1930 Hudson modified car. The Marr Special qualified for the Indianapolis 500 at an average speed of 106. 185 mph. The 1931 model was significantly changed including an enlargement of the engine displacement to 233. 7 cubic inches and 87 horsepower. The Model U Deluxe Brougham sedan was the top line car in 1931.  

                          The 1931 Hudson Model U Deluxe Brougham offered in this auction was restored by Ken Amman of Lennon. Michigan in 1972 and 1973. The work was really done nicely for the time and has stood up well. This car is pictured in the “Standard catalog of American Cars” on page 704. Ken maintained the car and drove it to many Shows and Hudson club events over the years.   The car still shows well. The current mileage is 09106. The actual mileage is unknown.

              CONDITION

This car is a very nicely preserved restored car. It starts right up. runs and stops well. I took it for a nice drive last weekend. The engine is quiet. makes good power and the gearboxes are quiet.  This car has an interior that was restored many years ago in period material. The windshield opens to allow the flow of fresh air and all of other windows work nicely as well. The interior Chrome and dash panels are very nice. There is very nice triangular Waltham eight day clock mounted on the header over the windshield. The exterior chrome is very nice. It was rechromed during the restoration process. The car was repainted at the same time and still shows well. All of the lights and Gauges work. except the gas gauge is intermittent. There is a fresh electric fuel pump to supplement the vacuum tank. The battery and Carburetor are also fresh.   The extra parts for this car are also included in this auction if the new owner wants them. There are 2 complete engines. transmission and rear axle assemblies and several boxes of parts to include radiator. manifolds. another set of wire wheels. etc. This stuff is a big pickup load!

 This is a Very Presentable Restored Hudson Brougham. You can drive this car to Cruise Ins and shows right now. You can get into the Collector car hobby and the Hudson Club with a turnkey car. I believe that this Hudson is a drivable car although it has not been on the road for any distance in some years. I have done my best to make an accurate detailed description of this car.
