Very serious collectors seem to be very interested in the post war foreign sports car as an important genre for their collection.   One of the most popular cars in this category is the Mercedes Benz 190 SL which is the kid brother of the Mercedes 300 SL.   When Mercedes designed the 190SL they took all of the styling cues from the Mercedes 300 SL and shrunk it down for this smaller sports touring car.   If you read up on the write ups of the day. the 190SL got rave reviews for quality. handling and long range touring.   It was written up as a remarkably comfortable car that could cruise all day at 80 mph.   Most of the Mercedes 190SL's were ridden hard and put away wet.   There are very few examples that can be found in wonderful condition.

In 1957 a price of $5. 58. 00 which is around what the list price was for a Mercedes 190SL was certainly more expensive than just about every other American car.   The old-style German quality is evident throughout the cars and just about every review made mention of the high price for the day but also that it was worth it because of this German quality.

It should be mentioned right up front that the car in the eBay auction has been a one family car since 1961 and is well documented.   The car was originally purchased by a serviceman in 1957 in Germany and then brought over to the United States.   The father of the seller purchased it in 1961 and used the car extensively in its early years and then later retired it to a corner of his garage.

In 2001 to 2004 according to the seller. the car received an extensive ground up restoration by highly experienced 190SL restorers.   The seller has put on an estimated 2. 00 miles since the completion of the restoration in 2004 so the car is considered a well sorted car ready for serious shows or long range touring.

This 1957 Mercedes Benz 190 SL does come with both a hard top and soft top. along with a cradle for the hard top.   An upgraded electronic ignition system is also on the car.   The car has a new Becker radio. partial tool kit with original jack and factory jump seat.   Original painted wheel covers.   Original rebuilt Solex carburetors.   Check out the manuals and other literature.   New brake booster.

If you have been looking for a highly significant. iconic. German sports car to add to your collection. this is certainly one that is worthy of serious consideration.   We encourage you to check out the photos and the additional photos of details. underside and more engine photos on the video and place your bids accordingly.   It is very. very seldom that you see 190s for sale and it is an extremely rare opportunity when you see one in this high grade restored condition.
