1965 Sunbeam Alpine Series IV a

Thanks for stopping by to take a look at our very cool 1965 Sunbeam Alpine Series IV (a. early) Convertible.  Perfectly suited for your inner secret Agent 007 or even Maxwell Smart's Agent 86 with Agent 99 by your side!  This is the early crossover model that sports the best of Series IV and Series V.  That hard boot cover is a rarity as are the wire wheels with spinners and top of the line 1725 engine.

Part of the British sports car invasion of the 60's and well known to collectors and vintage racers alike. the Alpine is fun to drive. inexpensive to operate and an appreciating asset in your portfolio.  

As our GI's returned from Europe. demand was high for sporting automobiles and the Sunbeam Alpines were competing against MGs. Mustang's. Triumphs. Austin Healey's and Jaguars for those sales. Alpines sold well and were much loved by their owners.  In fact. the majority of our  Alpine buyers over the last few years. say they had one “back in the day”.  It's one of those automotive experiences that stay with you.

The Alpine became famous in many films of the 60's and was driven by legendary performers like Cary Grant. Elizabeth Taylor. Michael Caine and Tuesday Weld.  From James Bond films to the Get Smart Television series. the Sunbeam Alpine was a favorite among movie stars and racers alike.

Currently in “driver plus” condition. this great Alpine runs well and drives nicely.  The restoration is older and the paint is thinning in spots (see pics and video).

Rarity

Produced in limited quantities from 1959 to 1968 The Sunbeam Alpine is a rare sight to see outside of a British car meet.  This is the Series IV (a) car with the larger 1725 engine. wire wheels. synchromesh transmission. Hard tonneau and a hard top.  

Exterior

Driver quality older restoration in. correct to this car. British Racing Green. The paint has been maintained and shines up well but it is thinning in spots. There are repaired nicks and scratches.  Color matched BRG hard top is easy on and off.  The biscuit convertible top is new and the rear window is clear.  This Alpine sports the hard cover for the convertible top which hides the folded top away completely.  Chrome is nice.  The car presents beautifully.

Floors/Rust damage

The floors and battery box are solid and gorgeous.  Check the pics. Few Alpines have floors this nice.  There is no evidence of rust that we can find.  Check the photos or better yet. come see the car in person.

Wheels. Tires

Five nice wire wheels with newer tyres are in place.

Engine

1725 cc British hotrod.  (This is the big engine for this marque) She sports an upgraded Weber carburetor. a big improvement over standard.  Freshly serviced.  New water pump. Nice exhaust note. Runs well.

Transmission

4 Speed Manual transmission is smooth and responsive.

Braking. Steering

Front disc brakes and rear drums operating properly.  This vehicle was originally equipped with vacuum assisted brakes. The booster has been rebuilt and a new master cylinder has been installed. Braking is excellent.  Steering is precise and on point.

Service

Fresh service. turnkey and ready to go! Coolant. oil. filters. hoses and belts. Brake service.

Trim

The chrome trim is in good shape. Some minor pitting and wear can be seen. see pics and video. Emblems are in driver plus condition.

3 covers: Hardtop. Convertible Top and Tonneau

The hardtop by Parrish Plastics of Bethel PA is colour matched and fit is excellent.  Snug fitting and weather tight with new rubbers. There are two small cracks in the plex rear window that you can see in the photos.  Replacement plex is available.

The biscuit convertible top is fairly new and the rear window is in great condition.  This rare. Series 4 (a=early) car sports the hard boot style convertible stowage.  It hides the top away in the body for a sleek look rather than being covered with a canvas.  The top operates easily and stows away nicely.

A soft tonneau  that covers the cockpit with the top down is also included.  See the pics and video.

Glass

The glass is in good condition.

Interior

Nice contrasting biscuit seats. carpets and door panels. Real wood dash. Jaeger gauges. Wood shift knob and center arm rest/storage.

Audio

Kenwood AM FM Cassette Radio with 4 speakers

Boot

Excellent untouched condition. Spare wire wheel and good tire.  Solid - No rust.

Odometer

The odometer shows 7368 miles.  Mileage on this vehicle is exempt.

Comparables

There are very few comparable Alpine cars for sale at this time. Sunbeam Tigers seem to be available in the $50. 00 to $75. 00 range. Factor in the rare hard top. wire wheels and hard tonneau. and it becomes a very short list.  Given the extreme scarcity of available cars. this Alpine represents an outstanding value that can be enjoyed immediately as well as being an appreciating investment in automotive art.
