1948 Chevrolet Other Pickups

1948 REO SPEEDWAGON! D19A

Ok. I know I listed a REO in Chevrolet trucks. nbsp;but. I figured there are probably a few people looking for a REO. but this thing is so cool. so unique that I wanted to show it off to a few others as well.   Any old truck guy is going to do a double take when he sees this old beauty!

I am selling this truck at NO RESERVE. so it will go to the highest bidder. regardless of price.

I am far from a Reo expert. but obviously these old trucks are pretty rare. and finding one in this shape is even more rare.   It appears to be completely original.   This is the short wheelbase truck. the D19A. which I believe is the same model they used to build the extremely rare Reo speedwagon pickups.    I have read that they only built around 200 pickups. with maybe 20 left in existence.   I have a 1948 Dodge pickup. with 9ft bed. which is what came on the Reo's. I know Chevy built a 9ft bed as well. we measured. and the bed from the '48 Dodge would fit perfectly on this truck.   It was a thought we contemplated for quite some time. but in the end decided to leave it original. and let the new owner decide.

So here is what I know about the truck.   I purchased it from an estate. and from everything I am told. the  24K miles showing on the odometer are correct. these old trucks were mainly taken back and forth to the grain elevator. so I'm sure its right.   The truck had not run in years. and the fuel pump does not work. so we used an electric fuel pump. cleaned up the points. put in a battery. and the truck fired right up.   It sounds really nice. and carries good oil pressure.   There are a few things that are going to need to be done. however. before it is drivable.   The brakes are going to need some work.   We put in some brake fluid. but the master cylinder doesn't appear to be functioning.   And - the radiator does have a couple of spots that need repaired.

We did take the time to polish this truck up a bit. but please keep in mind that it is a 70 year old farm truck.   It was stored inside most of its life. but it has all the typical dings. scratches and blemishes. that all farm trucks have.   Kansas is a fairly dry state. so there are nearly no rust issues.   There is a little the driver side running board. but very minimal.   All the glass is in great shape.   The doors open and close well. but the lower hinge on the driver door could use a little work.   The only part we found to be missing. was the battery cover. under the driver door.   We made one to fit. but Krylon couldn't quite match the color!  I even have the original owner manual for this truck.   Try finding one of those!  Everything about this truck is unique and different.   I took a picture of the rear axle while still loaded on my trailer.   Even the tires are in pretty good shape. with decent tread and minimal weathering.   And the box on this truck. well you probably couldn't find anything more fitting for something that spent its whole life in Kansas.   The old wood box with wheat painted on it was the deciding factor in not swapping out beds.
