Selling our Beautiful 1949 Hudson Commodore 8 four door sedan. Flathead straight 8 cylinder engine with “3 on the Tree” with overdrive.

I bought this in 2012 from a classic car dealer & AACA member in Lebanon. Pa.  who got it from the estate of the second owner in Lebanon. Pennsylvania. I was told that the original owner was DK Wissler; the owner of the Hudson dealer there and when he passed away; his best friend inherited it from his estate. His friend was the owner of the International Harvester dealer. I am sure the second part is true for sure as it has an IH dealer key tag & hat in the trunk. Being I was lied to very blatently about most everything to do with the car. I am not guaranteeing any of the above is true! But if it is. then I am the 3rd owner of the car.

It has approximately 68. 00 actual miles on it and it runs & drives great. I had NO INTENTION of EVER selling it; but – surprisingly – I found an EVEN NICER one! There is an antique & classic car auction in Minot on Labor Day every year; and tlast year a 49 Commodore 8 Sedan Hudson showed up and I bought it. I am hoping it is a better car than the black one but I know I have to do what I JUST FINISHED on the black one – that is; complete brake job & wheel bearing pack. But. for $30. 00. 00 I sure HOPE it's a better car!

YES. I JUST finished packing ALL wheel bearings and doing a complete brake job on this car; as well as changed the transmission. overdrive. and drive axle lubes as well as the engine oil again. The radio was just rebuilt /  repaired & reinstalled; works great. Also just re-sealed the trunk & re-undercoated it where the undercoating in the trunk was loose. as well as repaired the parking. tail & turn signal lights. Yes. it does have factory turn signals – surprising as it may seem today; turn signals WERE an option!!

In any event; this is a VERY NICE original car other than it was repainted once since new; I am thinking the IH dealer painted it in about 1972 when he got it. The interior is still very nice; other than the headliner. some wear on door panels and the rubber front mat should be replaced. But. you can literally fly in to Minot & drive this car to Florida – I would not be scared to do it.

There are rust holes on the bottom of the Left Rear door. along the chrome that runs along the bottom of the door. There are also some rust holes through the Rocker Panels. but not real bad. Being it's a black car and the rockers were painted silver; it would not be a hard fix – paint would be easy to match! I had intended on welding in new metal & fixing it; but now that I got the other Hudson I will sell this as is. There is no rust through on any of the floors or trunk; or fenders that I can find. I am sure if you media blasted the floors you would find pinholes; but for a Step Down Hudson it is really solid. If you are familiar with these cars you will know that the floor pans are generally rusted through with big holes. I do not currently have any good photos of the rust spots; so take my word for it – they are there; but very fixable.
