1971 Marcos Volvo 3 Litre Coupe

This is an export edition. one of the last of the original Marcos cars. It has a 2. 94cc straight six Volvo B30 engine (from the 164) with twin Strombergs – it is an automatic. which is very rare. with a Borg Warner 35 gearbox.

Unusual features of this edition include a glass rear screen. twin round headlamps (standard were rectangular). auxiliary lights and the chassis number (3L/5653) stamped on the driver's window chrome finish.

Standard fibreglass body. finished in tangerine. with a metal space frame chassis. The interior is good. finished in velour and trimmed by an ex Aston Martin trimmer. from the original Marcos patterns. Boot also very presentable.  with a sheepskin base. The car was originally prepared to a high standard by the previous owner. Derek Millard. an MOC member.

Selling this car will be a wrench. as I have owned it for 27 years (my second Marcos) and I first joined the Marcos Owners Club when I was 17 (I am now 60!). It was in the past one of the best in the country. having won the best in class in 1986 and also the Dennis Adams trophy.

The Marcos has had over £5K spent on it with a variety of replacement parts. but this is being sold as a project and it will need trailering away. and full recommissioning. The engine starts OK and runs. The fibreglass is generally very good with few stress cracks. but the paint has a lot of micro-blisters and it will need a respray.

As standard. there are electric windows. sun roof. radiomobile radio and electric aerial (need attention). twin air horns. Cobra style wheels and a Kenlowe fan. There is also an oil cooler fitted. With the car will be a manual gearbox and overdrive. if you wanted to convert it to manual transmission. The number plate LHK 57J is distinctive and potentially valuable.
