HISTORY

The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable. well engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. That reputation was to be forever changed on December 7th. 1947 when Hudson introduced their new 1948 models in nationwide showings. Banners proclaimed “This Time It's Hudson”. The cars won instant acclaim from the public. Production had actually begun on October 12th. The tremendous factory conversion effort took only 23 days. Hudson spent $16. 00. 00 for development and new production equipment. The new car was revolutionary in that virtually no parts interchanged with the 1947 models. except the eight cylinder engine. which was essentially the same. The car had the lowest center of gravity and the lowest roofline of any American car without sacrificing headroom. due to the floor pans being attached to the bottom of the frame members instead of the top as all previous American cars had been. While the 1941 Nash 600 had been the first production unibody car. the new Hudson  was significantly  more rugged in construction and offered a sleek new design that was way ahead of the competition. The new body design was termed “Monobilt” because the body structure was of welded all steel construction.

The Legendary Hudson Hornet was introduced for the 1951 model year. Hornets immediately started burning up the racetracks and byways of America. The last year of Detroit Hudson production was 1954. By 1954 the single carburetor Hornets were rated at 160 Horsepower due to better valve relief and a more aggressive camshaft. The Twin H Power models were rated at 170.

              CONDITION

The 1954 Hudson Hornet offered here is one of the best anywhere! This is a whisper Quiet. matching number. great running Hornet with Hydramatic. It was recently treated to new paint and chrome. the stainless was polished and new emblems front and rear. The interior was completely restored using materials very close to the original. The interior is very nice! It was also converted to 12 volt electrics. All of the lights and gauges work correctly. There is a nice matched set of modern Radial tires. In terms of defects. there is a rock chip in the middle of the windshield and a crack in the lower left corner under the North Carolina inspection sticker. A good used windshield is included. if desired by the new owner. The clock and radio are inop. In spite of the fact that the Hydramatic was recently rebuilt by a long time expert. the 2-3 shift is sometimes late. A throttle linkage adjustment might correct this. This car is offered at much less than restoration costs! It is currently Licensed. Insured and on the road.

I spoke with the owner this afternoon. He liked the ad. but stated that I had made the "Buy It now" price too low. We will honor this price. He also stated that he had not painted the car. It was done by the previous owner. The paint still stands tall and the car looks great. even on close inspection.
