Named for Enzo Ferrari's son. Alfredino. who died in 1956 at the age of 24 as the result of muscular dystrophy. the Dino was. fittingly. a 'baby' Ferrari that was dimensionally smaller and more nimble than any other street Ferrari. Its mid-placed engine was a Ferrari first for a street car. and the engine itself is a gem: a lovely quad cam V6 that reflected the lessons learned from producing V6s for Dino race cars like the 206 SP. The styling for the car was done by Pininfarina. and remains to many one of the most beautiful and exotic Ferraris of the period. Certainly the view from the driver's seat over the two prominently curved fenders is one of the most evocative roadgoing driver's seat views.
The DINO 246 GTS debuted in 1972. featuring a lift-off roof panel and the elimination of the Berlinetta's rear quarter-windows. marking the ultimate evolution with just 1. 74 total examples produced. Continuing to rank among the most beautiful Ferrari models ever built. the 246 GT and GTS influenced Ferrari design far beyond the end of their production run in 1974 with their pioneering min-engine design and stylistic excellence. While all surviving examples are in high demand today. this wonderful 246 GTS from 1973 . numbered 05720. is even more desirable. A rare "Chairs and Flares" variant. so-named for it's racing -style bucket seats shared with the 365 "Daytona" and wider flared fenders accommodating the wider 7 1/2 inch Campagnolo alloy wheels that became available in 1973 . it was also factory equipped with air conditioning and power windows. As such. it is believed to be one of just 92 cars equipped with this most sought after combination.
A California car for much of its life and clearly benefiting from a fresh restoration with a bare-metal repaint in the original Fly Yellow. new and restored brightwork and a completely restored interior featuring new black leather upholstery. carpeting and "mouse hair" dash. New rubber seals. reflectors and plastic trim parts were used as well. Mechanical items included removal and full servicing of the engine. rebuilding of the triple Weber carburetors installation of a new clutch and replacement of all needed nuts and bolts etc. The odometer shows 26716 miles which is believed to be correct after reviewing the history. Chasis # 05720 marks an incomparable opportunity to acquire and enjoy this wonderful and highly influential driving machine. Handsomely presented. it now stands ready to deliver a truly unforgettable driving experience with it's characteristically snarling. and period correct Ansa exhaust.
