Welcome to my auction for a once in a life time opportunity. This is your chance to own one of the most incredibly rare and exceptionally unique classic automobiles of all time. the Healey Abbott Drophead. 1 of 77 ever made. this stunning & elegantly designed. sportique vehicle with suicide doors is as rare as rocking horse poop.
It is with a very heavy heart that I am listing 'Penelope'. my father's engagement present to my late mother back in the 60's. Regrettably the time has come for her to find a new life with a new family.  My late mother was still driving Pen in the 90's but then she was kept garaged and eventually seized up (the Healey. not my mother!). Luckily. due to having an aluminium body shell she didn't deteriorate and in 2005 I had some work done on her. The steering rack was totally rebuilt and a brand new duck and mohair hood (not lined) was fitted at the cost of £3. 74 by Fullbridge Restoration Company. Maldon Essex (specialists in mechanical. body & trim work to Jaguar. Ferrari and all classic cars).
Between June 2010 and May 2011 she underwent an engine restoration and total rewire with a private specialist in Tiverton. Devon. at a further cost of £3. 00. I have all the invoices for this work. which I will include for the buyer's information. along with all other pertinent documentation.  She was MOT'd in April 2011 and back on the road. We used her for a year before tucking her up in the garage until now.
As well as being tax exempt she is now also MOT exempt due to the changes in government legislation.  Insurance is generally around £100 per annum.
It was always my late mother's wish to see her in film work and before I had her back on the road a production company approached me. requesting her for use in their television production in the South West. Sadly due to her being a non runner at the time she missed her screen debut but this provoked me to get her back on the road. As well as being my late mother's wish to see her in film that line of work has very appealing financial benefits for a vehicle as rare as this.
She would still command a comfortable fee for film work just as she is but my intentions were to take the next step of giving her a full respray and interior refit. Alas. my own house renovation work and new business venture has forced me to part with her. I cannot afford the extra work and soon I will no longer have the garage space for her either so I am very regrettably moving her on. However. I am sure that a car of this calibre will only end up with an enthusiast who will treat her with the utmost respect and care so this is my one comfort in parting with her.
Unfortunately. after being garaged for the past 2 years the clutch cable has now snapped and although this is just a minor issue to be repaired she cannot be driven away and is therefore a roll-on/roll-off for collection. We are up a private lane but I have had her put on and off a low loader twice now and would be willing to help in necessary.
Condition:Considering her age and the fact that she has never had a respray or full restoration she is in great condition and never fails to command a lot of attention. That said. to have her in A1 condition she would be in need of a light/medium restoration of bodywork. a medium/full restoration of the interior and some tinkering to the engine (plus the clutch cable repair as mentioned above). The front seats are not the originals. I believe they are possibly from a Jaguar but as far as I am aware the rest is 99% original. including the woodwork etc. except the new hood obviously! Started her this morning and she's running just fine.
