1969 MGB GT RESTORSTION PROJECT WITH NO NEED FOR WELDING EQUIPMENT

An original bodyshell not an £8500 heritage shell

Here we have an easy project.

It doesn't look easy I hear you say but I have completed and failed to complete many projects and believe me this is easy.

WHY?

Most projects will fail because the ambition and ability are greater than the capability.

I would suggest that most older restorations grind to a halt after good money has been spent on engines. wheels. brakes. interiors ect. because they have put off the inevitable welding which is always a major issue on cars produced around the 60's and 70's.

MGB's are no exception and the rust worms do a fantastic job of returning metal in some surprising areas back to mother earth.

The body shell on offer is an original British Leyland shell from the early 70's (not heritage) I believe with a Webasto roof opening and has never had running gear or much else attached having been in storage all that time. There is light surface rust but no pitting. I would suggest a chemical dip or light blast would bring it back as new. The doors. aluminium bonnet and tailgate are second hand although the doors have had new skins which have not had paint and will be the most difficult job on the car.

The donor car is a 1969 which is complete. but having had a restoration in the 1990's the body is completely rotten. I have the registration document in my name on sorn. Because of the year it is tax exempt.

All you have to do to complete a 1969 MGB GT with absolutely no rust and no welding is paint it and swap all the parts onto this shell.

New parts where required are readily available from a multitude of suppliers at no great expense and you can get everything down to the last nut so no problem there.

Great starter project which should move forward fast before the enthusiasm starts to wain.

No great skills required to complete. a novice petrol head should find it easy. Once the shell has been prepared and painted it is just a matter of cleaning and painting parts before fitting.
