Very nice Ferrari 400i for sale
Current customer rating: (560 votes ) based onFor sale is my 1981 Ferrari 400i. I'm am the sixth owner of the vehicle. It was sold new in Chicago then shortly thereafter. spent a good portion of it's life in the Florida Keys. It was then sold to it's second owner in Colorado. It then went to another owner in Colorado. After that. the car went to Cincinnati. The fifth owner. also from Cincinnati. purchased the car approximately four years ago. I purchased the car just a short time ago.
The vehicle is black on tan and has approximately 30k miles on it. Vehicle service history seems to corroborate this mileage. I have vehicle service history back to new (however. can't vouch as to it's completeness). The vehicle has the original owners manual. jack and tire tool. However. the tool kit is not present. I also have a reproduction shop manual and parts catalog. The Pioneer radio is inoperative. Though not installed. I do have a freshly refurbished Becker Europa with auxiliary cable that could be supplied with the vehicle. depending on final sale price (I always thought these looked really good in these cars). The clock is functional but cannot be adjusted. Therefore. you would need to disconnect the battery and reattach it when actual time coincides with when power was disrupted. The windows do function. The driver's window is smooth but slow. The passenger window is quick but hiccups once. midway when being raised. The fuel gauge is inaccurate. All other gauges work properly. The electric door locks function from inside the car but the key does not turn in the door tumbler. The car starts up instantly when cold and only requires light throttle on a hot start. The car idles smooth on both hot and cold starts. The car runs exceptionally well. particularly on the highway. It pulls very strongly over 3000RPMs. I very recently took the car on an 1100 mile road trip. The car performed flawlessly. Coolant temperature stayed steady at approximately 85 degrees C. AC was adequate (wasn't icy cold but certainly kept me comfortable). The car has been converted to r134 refrigerant. Some recent work includes the front calipers were rebuilt and pads replaced. Brake fluid was changed. Air filters were replaced and minor service/tune up work completed. The exhaust is a full stainless unit. The self-leveling suspension has been eliminated. The vehicle has two brand new TRX tires up front and two high tread units at the rear (approx. 70% tread remaining. no dry-rot). I won't say the car is leak free but does not drip on the ground (underside just 'sweaty'). The belts are slightly noisy but are not in bad condition. The wipers only work on two speeds (intermittent and next speed up). The paint is in fair condition. The car is a good ten footer. The paint shines very nicely and the car is quite presentable. However. there's plenty of crazing. some light spider webbing. and other miscellaneous paint imperfections and door dings. The body is quite good but not perfect. There's some slight blistering around the front and rear glass. There's no rust around any of the quarter windows. The remaining body panels look good. There was some slight blistering at the bottom of the rear wheel wells but this has been spot treated and touched up. Doors. fenders. and underside look good. The leather shows its age but is not cracked. torn. or split. It appears the leather was dyed at some point in it's life. The door panels look good. However. there's some wear where one would would push the door open using their elbow (slight depression). There's some slight leather shrinkage on the dash at the base of the windshield. The headliner. carpets. center console. and wood trim are in good condition. Glass appears to be original and in good condition.
Overall. this is a very nice driving and presentable 400ia. It's a car that could be enjoyed immediately and one could sort the details along the way. Asking price is $23k. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any other questions.
