1981 Excalibur Series IV Phaeton

The Excalibur automobile is a car that Brooks Stevens styled after the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK for Studebaker.   Stevens subsequently formed a company to manufacture and market these cars.   This 1981 Excalibur Phaeton is the real McCoy and not a kit car.

Hand crafted luxury custom built with the highest of quality with all metal trim. grill and exhaust in stainless steel.   The hand laid fiberglass is twice as thick as a Corvette.   This car has a powerful 305 Chevrolet engine with a slick automatic Corvette drive trains.   Air conditioning needs a charge and the car has full power with steering. power brakes. power windows and power seats. Owner states that the odometer reads 38. 00.   Triple coat snow white with a slight metal flake and tan interior and we think this has got to be the best color combination for an Excalibur Phaeton!  A very nice bonus with this car is that it comes with both a soft top and the very rare hard top.   Other then one repaint the seller states this is an original car.   Note the elegant air horns. spotlights. side mounted spares. wire wheels and aluminum bumper.   You don't have to live in Hollywood to appreciate this car you can feel like a star driving it around your hometown.

This Excalibur is a truly incredible car and when viewing this car you can truly appreciate the genius of Brooks Stevens and the Excalibur Car Company.

The Excalibur was not a kit car but a very expensive car built by the 5th largest US car manufacturer in the day. It has been estimated that in today's world and dollars. a car like this would exceed 200K to produce and sell profitably.   Although the total of all Series of Excaliburs built from 1965 to 1989 is only 3166. The Excalibur SS Car Company was still the 5th largest US car manufacturer. The Excalibur is quite a marvel combining power. handling and a chassis that the best modern car builder would have a tough time making better.

At MissChiTown we always recommend to purchasers of collector cars that you buy a car that you really fall in love with.   The fact that most collector cars go up in value as times goes on should be a secondary consideration.   That being said. some collector cars go up faster then others and the Excalibur cars are poised. in our opinion. to become even trendier with the collectors then they have been in the past.   This means that they could be on a faster rise in value then other collector cars and of course having your dream car and see it escalate quickly in value never hurts.

For those that are not familiar with the background of the history of the Excalibur but have only come to appreciate the handsome design we have supplied the information on the car itself and the man behind the design. Brooks Stevens.

In short. Brooks Stevens was an International industrial designer that raced cars and eventually wanted to design his own car.   His dream came true with the design of the Excalibur and it was so well accepted that he went into full production with it.   The final years of the Excalibur as presented by the Excalibur in this ad is considered to be his best pieces of work and it has all the classic lines of a 1930s Mercedes race and touring car with all the modern convenience even air conditioning.

Today many collectors want collector cars that are not only beautiful to the eye but also practical to drive.   The Excalibur is the poster child for this philosophy.

The car that you see before you is in excellent condition and is only for sale because the owner has told us that personal reasons are forcing the sale.   We love the color combination in addition to the fact that the car is fitted for 4 people for comfort and enjoyment in touring the countryside or just going to a local car show.

Most collectors in the United States know that Excalibur was popular when it first came out and has not lost it's popularity but many do not realize that Excalibur's have been extremely popular in Canada (where this car is located) and in such places as Australia. New Zealand and Europe.

If you want a car with the classic car looks and modern acceleration. stopping and conveniences of power steering. power brakes. power window and air conditioning you just can't beat an Excalibur like the one featured in this ad.

Is this 1081 Excalibur still available

from Rich, dated 07 august 2015
Is the Excalibur still available? That is a very low price. If it is truly in excellent condition the going price should be more like $30+K usd.

from Malcom, dated 29 january 2015
Where can this be seen. I am in Ontario and want to view the car

from Vince Kaplan, dated 25 january 2015
Now,not have you NOT,answered in the first remark. I wonder if there is not a blemish you care not to let be seen on the DASH? ALSO, you show a lack of proper English in your first few sentences of your discription of the Automobile. I find this lack of proper verbal discription deplorable an I now wonder if this even existed. VK
