 1966 Mk1 Austin Mini Cooper 1150cc

Originally left the factory in July 1966. Island Blue with a Snowberry White roof. first registered in January 1967.

The car has had five previous owners and like many Coopers it has been modified by various owners over different decades.

By 1988 it was red with a modified engine. S brakes. dry suspension and a “rally” interior.

At some point in the mid 1990's it acquired an Almond Green. late 1965 shell.

The body was restored in 1998/9 but the car was never finished.

I bought the car as an unfinished restoration project. I decided not to restore the car to “original” condition but to keep it as a period modified Cooper.

My approach was to replace any part that was worn or prone to wear. so the majority of the electrical. fuel. cooling. suspension. steering and brake systems are new. Any period part was kept or replaced with a more suitable part.

The car was not restored to be a show car but it wouldn't embarrass itself if you were to show it.

Many of the original parts have been replaced over the years but the ones that remain are originally from this car. The glass (correct code for a July 1966 car) has been etched with the registration number and the original engine and body number plates are present and everything matches the V5 and Heritage certificate (Heritage shows the engine number as xx0xx. engine plate and V5 shows it as xx6xx. common mistake).

The 1150cc engine and gearbox were rebuilt in 1988 to a fast road spec (I have all the receipts).

The car had already been converted to dry suspension and S brakes. These were rebuilt with new doughnuts. hi-lo's. gas-adjust dampers. adjustable tie rods and rear camber/toe brackets (KAD) and 4-pot callipers.

The paintwork (cellulose) is now fifteen years old and still looks good (not perfect. but good). it has picked up a few minor marks and scratches in that time but there is no lifting. bubbling. crazing or cracking and no rust.
One of the sills is an over sill. the front wings. front panel. A panels and rear valance have been replaced. The floors. including the boot (couple of patches in battery box and boot floor) are original. Single skin steel bonnet and fibreglass boot lid.

I do have various parts (heater. original quarter lights. trim etc) which I have not fitted but are included.

The V5 has been in my name and current address since 2003.

Make: Austin
Model: Mini Cooper
Colour: Green
Engine cc: 1150

I took the car for an MOT today. it passed with an advisory "track rod ball joint dust covers deteriorated". It has done 18 miles since its last MOT and 158 miles since 2008.

As the car is not been used I have decided to sell it. Due to the lack of use it is running a bit rough so would benefit from a tune up.

I have listed the car on a 10 day auction to give people plenty of time to come and view. If the reserve is met I expect bidders to have viewed the car or contacted me with a reason why they are unable to view.

If you have any questions or would like to arrange to view then please contact me via “ask a question” or phone me on 07761206519.

Thanks Jon
